Meet Celeste Lomax of Celestial Care Solutions in South East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Lomax.

Celeste, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have worked in the medical field for over 30 years. I started looking for other ways to heal naturally from the inside out and healing the whole person. I watch people carry bags of medicines. Calling three and four medicines at a time. taking two hours to empty the refill line, and listening to patients complain about not having money for their prescriptions. I fell into a depression after losing my mother to cancer. I started with watching Oprah Winfrey who introduced me to meditation and I have been in Holistic Health & Wellness for ten years now. I studied yoga, chi-gong, meditation, energy exercises, healthy eating, growing my own herbs and making medicines out of them.

My passion is to teach those with low income how to use herbs, spices, vegetables, and food to heal our bodies. I have been with the Food Forest for two years now. It is going on its third year of growth. When I was introduced to the forest things were planted but no one was tending the land. We went from me being the only volunteer the year before last, to 900 volunteers last year. I hope to make over 1,000 this year. My passion is taking care of the Medicinal Herbs and getting the community involved.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, we are a work in progress and where there is growth there are growing pains. Here is what I learned.
1. Never plant before having an irrigation system plan in place, and research anyone who does your work. Try to find someone local to keep the equity piece fair and keep the money within the community for it to be restored.
2. Get the community involved before the project begins and the land is purchased, not after it has been done.
3. conflict resolutions plans put in place before starting your project for all those involved.
4. Keeping the community involved and updated on what is going on. I would take survey’s and ask them what would they like to see in this space.

Please tell us about your work.
I grow all natural organic Medicinal Herbs, and I make medicine with the herbs. I make elderberry syrup, I make a salve for aches and pains, I make a bitter to get things moving in the digestive tract, I make a defender for immune system build up, etc. I like to teach people how to eat and live healthily with classes in the food forest. I work in the community to get them involved in the food forest. I am known for Holistic Health & Wellness, and growing Medicinal Herbs in the orchard, and working at the Food Forest. I am most proud of helping people live longer healthier lives. what set’s me apart is my unconditional love I have for all humans, and wanting everyone to live their best life ever.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I remember going to a place called the cooper center, and we learned how to cook in the cooking classes taught there. The first thing I cook in life was the peanut butter brittle. I love to cook to this very day.
