Meet Chan Larue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chan Larue.

Chan, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Well, I’m originally from the Bronx, NY born and raised and I got an opportunity to move to Atlanta to work on my music career. So I left school, left my job at forever 21, and I packed my bags and never looked back. My sister @neshmcqueen whose a singer/songwriter/vocal producer whose written for Chris Brown, trey songs, Destiny’s Child, Pink, Christina Aguilera and etc. to make a few. She has been grooming me as an artist ever since. While I work on my craft, I’m usually demoing records for mainstream artist, singing background for other artists as well until my EP drops this year.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a singer/ songwriter, so my music is my art. The inspiration is real life. I love to sing from a personal point of view, so everything I sing about I have experienced. What I hope people take away from my music is to always Be confident, not to take any mess from anyone especially boyfriend/girlfriend and knowing your value as a woman. I want people to see themselves in me and know that I go through the Same struggles that you do, and everything will be alright in the end. I want people to know that you don’t have to Be a size 2 to be sexy and dance around on stage lol. You can be talented big and beautiful and not have to lose weight to fit into this standard that society has created! I want to show everyone that a big girl from the Bronx can be just as successful and doesn’t have to change a thing about herself to Be accepted!

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I’m so glad you asked me about this! Every day is literally a struggle trying to scrape up money to afford photoshoots, videos, studio and etc. I don’t have a 9-5 I have to hustle a lot to make things shake okay! I’m a makeup artist as well here’s my makeup page @beatbychan. I do that on the side to make money. It’s so hard staying positive when bills are due, but I’d rather be happy pursuing my music than working a job that’s not making me happy. You have to remember why you started, and it’s easier said then done but staying motivated and staying consistent will make keep you focused! Just keep grinding don’t have an ego work as much as you can but make sure you’re dedicating majority of your time to your dreams.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
For now, you can go to my Instagram @chanlarue to get all the latest updates. YouTube (@chanlarue) has videos and my latest performance so you can check that out as well.
