Hi Chandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always had a dream of being an entrepenuer. so, 20 years into my career, I got the opportunity to start a business to assist small business with recordkeeping, taxes and financial planning. Through my journey, I realized as an entreprenuer, you need to have multiple streams of income. so, I expanded by services as progressed in business to added insurance services and home loan services.
I help families to realize the dream of home ownership by education and providing practical steps to help them get prepared to become homeowners.
I started a non-profit called Scholars of Money Matters to teach financial literacy in the schools and community. I started because I did a couple of professional days in the school talking with student and there honesty about the financial struggles happening in their homes touched me and I started the non-profit.
I just started a podcast called “Practical Living – Authentic Conversations” where I have authentic conversations on purpose to help other overcome situations of life and reset.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definitely obstacles along the way. First was having enough resources to sustain my business after the 1st year. In hindsight, I should have took out the business loan prior to me leave my full-time job. Lenders would not lend me money because my profits were low and I did not have 2 years of financials.
Secondly, I had to learn how to balance being marketing, finance, hr and fulfulling my duties. I joined and attended networking group so I could get insight from other who were also entreprenuers. This helped me as I was learning to navigate from being an employee to an owner.
