Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Cooper.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chanel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Being able to use my hands to create something beautiful has always been a valued gift of mine. With that, doing hair and doing it beautifully, came very natural to me. Since high school, I used my hair as an art form medium. It was there to exercise my style, express my thought and emotion, and allow me to create! Hair was my muse and soon became my passion. After high school graduation, I attended the Paul Mitchell Beauty School in Roswell to further my education in the beauty industry. Soon after, in 2017, I earned my license and The Circuit Salon was the next place I was meant to be. I am currently working within the salon. Here, I am working in the salon as the Team Leader, mastering my skillset, meeting and serving so many wonderful people, and loving my journey as it comes.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey to success has not been a smooth road. For me, I struggled with having confidence in my abilities and knowing that mistakes are going to happen. If mistakes did happen, the biggest thing was learning from them and doing it better next time. No one client is the same, so it takes a lot of mindfulness and thinking through each step to achieve a desired, healthy, salon-finished result. Another struggle I faced was my delivering information where it was clear, concise, and assertive, whether it be about hair, product knowledge, or processes. Some of the things that have helped me progress in these areas are confidence-building videos, books on communication and practice, practice, practice. It has also helped me tremendously to surround myself with people who are strong in those areas and who not only willing to uplift me but hold me accountable for my self-development. I am dedicated and non-negotiable about achieving my goals and doing what it takes to get there. Life is full of peaks and valleys, so some troubles along the way are expected. It is imperative to stay committed to yourself and what you want to create in life. Don’t be engulfed in worry, fear or failure. Work through your struggle because the outcome will be greater, much brighter, and worth the hard work.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Prototype: The Circuit Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
Our salon team operates as a “circuit” within the salon. Much like circuit training at a gym, the main focus of creating “the circuit” is to enable clients to get in and out in a timely fashion. There is not an extensive wait because we value our client’s time. Each station is catered to a particular service and each team member has to be certified by the creative director to perform at each station. Doing this not only guarantees mastery of your skills but creates consistent, quality stylists within the salon. We care. We care about our clients and we care about the health of their hair and scalp. We are very ethical in determining which custom style, treatment, and look is best for each and every client, whether that be due to their lifestyle, appearance, or health. I specialize in locs, braiding and twist styling. It is what I love to do.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, there are so many things that I wish to immerse myself in and I know there is no limit. I see myself as a business owner, serving more and more people worldwide, working on movie and video sets and doing hair and makeup for weddings and special events. I would also love to give back to the community by volunteering in assistant living homes, giving free hair care services, and back-to-school haircuts for young boys. I believe in giving back to the community so that others can receive the types of gifts and education that I have received over the course of my career.
