Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Jenkins.

Charles “DJ FungSway” Jenkins is undeniably the next DJ to become a household name! Born and raised in College Park, GA, he has used Atlanta to set his foundation in the entertainment industry. His love for music and passion for success has opened many doors for him. FungSway was only in the fourth grade when he developed an ear for great music. As a child, he was actively involved in talent shows and was always remembered for singing and dancing to music. Based on his childhood propensity, it was no surprise when discovering the career path he would eventually choose.

In his adolescent years, FungSway was actively involved in theater, the band, and the orchestra. Entering high school, FungSway combined his devotion with knowledge, forming the Gifted Music Group (GMG) with a few of his friends. The group consisted of DJs, rappers, producers, engineers, videographers, and photographers. Collectively, the group began to frequently appear on the Atlanta music scene. GMG produced videos, made radio appearances, performed in clubs, and built a fanbase on college campuses within the Atlanta Metro area. Although the group eventually dismantled, FungSway’s love for music only grew fonder. After weighing future options and career possibilities, he made an executive decision to focus on the life of becoming Atlanta’s next star.

Understanding the importance of balance and education, DJ FungSway made it a priority to enroll in college. In pursuit of a teaching degree, he attended a plethora of institutions: GA Perimeter, Gordon College, Clayton State University, and Atlanta Metropolitan College. At one point, FungSway was unsure of his path and took a job as an assistant coach at Hapeville Charter School. Working both gigs simultaneously, he prepared himself to be successful just in case one option did not work out. The process of transferring and making so many connections is where he began to live by the popular mantra “Your Network is Your Net Worth.” Being a DJ keeps FungSway very active in the community and has maintained his popularity in the school system.

DJ FungSway currently offers his services for marathon runs, career days, proms, weddings and more events. Because of his focus, hard work, and determination, he has earned the opportunity to work with one of Atlanta’s top urban radio stations Hot 107.9. He currently tours school campuses with popular radio personalities Party Boi Duece & Stuey Rock. His efforts have also gotten him into rooms with the likes of Ceelo Green, Lil Keed, Young Nudy, TK Kravitz, Euro Gotti, Pastor Troy, Rich Homie Quan, Sy Ari Da Kid & more reputable artists. FungSway has also taken over several corporate events with his diverse mixes, such as Zoom Meetings 2019 and the Southwest Airlines Gala 2017. He has also had the opportunity to DJ the GreenHeart Gala for Ceelo’s GreenHouse Foundation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been an easy road by far. Trying to pursue my dream of making Djfungsway a household name in the industry and be the next mogul is a daily struggle. Something that I live by is The 10,000-hour rule popularized by Malcolm Gladwell. It roughly says, “If you practice one skill for 10,000 hours, you’ll have a good chance at becoming an expert at it.” It can be hard to juggle the tasks of staying booked and maintaining my role as a professional business owner. It was always scary making the initial investment of believing in myself enough to spend some of my last dollars to purchase my equipment. Lastly, the constant battle of staying updated with all the new music & genres, along with the time it takes to download all these songs. That can be a job in itself.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think it was luck at all. I feel like God’s guidance is what got me to where I am. Some call that luck but I call it a blessing. Either way, I’m thankful for the blessings, opportunities, and favor that this has been with me throughout this journey.
