Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlise Milam.
Charlise, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am born and raised here in Atlanta. I have desired to be a hairstylist and salon owner since I was four years old. I started cosmetology school right after I graduated high school in 2008 from Southwest Dekalb high school. After I completed cosmetology school in 2010 at Georgia Piedmont Technical College, I started to build my clientele while I attended Georgia State University majoring in Exercise Science, graduating in Spring 2014. In fall 2014 I opened my very own salon, Hair Loft Atlanta. At Hair Loft Atlanta, were all about soothing our clients. I play a combination of R&B & Soulful music while serving refreshments, wine & other soothing beverages. I am very passionate about healthy hair care and catering to my clients. I decided to expand my craft by also starting my own Virgin hair line.
My advice to anyone wanting to pursue a dream is to do it your own way. Going to cosmetology school right out of high school instead of college was a hard decision for my family and friends to accept but in the end, I had a plan and stuck with it and opened my very own salon at 24 years old with a college degree. I recommend you write down your idea and goals and check them off as you complete them. Understand that the road to success isn’t easy and there will be obstacles along the way and to never give up on your dreams.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a struggle being a full-time student while also handling a full clientele.
Hair Loft Atlanta – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in color, cuts, & growing healthy hair. I’m known for taking damage hair & rejuvenating it. I am most proud of not giving up. It can be difficult but I have set goals & I’m always determined to achieve them. I’m most proud of taking this childhood dream & making it come true!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Opening the salon will be my proudest moment of them all!
