Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Terry.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back during my high school years, I definitely struggled with very low self-esteem and inner confidence. I always sought validation and valued other individuals’ opinions over mine. There were so many opportunities I missed out on simply because I felt like I wasn’t good enough and I was afraid to express anything that I loved and enjoyed doing in fear of what others may think. But once I started my college years at Columbus State University, I started to venture out more and socialize by joining clubs. One particular club that really grabbed my attention was a modeling organization, called Beyond the Runway. When I auditioned for the model call and officially became a member, I discovered how intense my passion was for fashion and modeling. I kept wanting to learn more and it helped me bring out my confidence. It also helped me gain valuable, life-long peers who push me every day to be the best version of myself. So in 2016, I decided to launch my own brand, Char.Modeling. It’s not only designed to showcase my work and my journey as an aspiring model and fashionista, but I want it to most importantly, serve as a platform to motivate and inspire others to be confident and follow their dreams. You don’t have to be a lover of fashion or an aspiring model to support my brand. It’s open to anyone who has a dream and needs that little push to get there.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Even now, there are still times when I feel stuck and I don’t know which direction I’m really going. It can be really depressing at times and I have even found myself questioning whether or not I’m doing the right thing. But, I’ve learned the key is to never give up. I’m nowhere near where I want to be but I have to keep pushing and trust God’s timing and His process. That’s the message I want my supporters to have engraved in their minds. When people see or hear Char.Modeling, I want the words “Never give up.” to be the only message that comes to mind.
Please tell us about Char.Modeling.
Char.Modeling is designed to showcase my work and journey as an aspiring model (runway, and commercial/print) and fashion blogger. My website, www.charmodeling.com, consists of an online portfolio, blogs, outfit ideas/look book, and an “Inspire Me” section, in which I post motivational quotes to give my new and frequent visitors a little boost whenever it is needed. I also specialize in creating outfit/product concepts. And together with photographer (Derrick Reed), MUA (Sineca Butler), and hairstylist (Jalissa Marshall), I’m able to bring those concepts to life and produce quick, 30-sec video content and/or images for my followers to view. I think it’s a fun, interactive way to show off my style and fashion ideas. Its also a great way to collaborate with other photographers, brands and businesses to promote their services and products, and it helps set me apart from others. Char.Modeling is available on all social media platforms.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was when I would come home from school and create little videos for my mom to watch. I’ve been a huge anime fan since I was little. I would take clips from different anime shows and put music behind it and create cute videos for her to watch. I couldn’t wait for my mom to get home from work so I could show them to her. And looking back, I didn’t realize that hobby would become such an important video editing skill for my brand. Upon realizing that, it also makes me want to start speaking to our youth in the future through organizations or schools. A lot of the roots to our dreams begin from our childhood. Any child that has a talent or something they love should pursue it and make a name for themselves. Kids should know that they are the future.
