Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Chambers.
Keisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a native of Detroit, Michigan, currently residing in Georgia. My Sophomore year at Michigan State University, I dropped out, moved to GA in 2011 due to my father passing from Cancer. I felt like my father’s last whisper (dying wish) is what brought me here to the city of Atlanta. At 19 years old, I drove 11 hours from Michigan with so much pain lingering from his transition. All I had was my blue ford focus (still driving to this day) my luggage, a heart full of hurt, confusion, passion & determination to bring his dying wish to life. Which was to see me on tv doing what I’ve been passionate about since I was three years old. Entertaining, dancing, performing, art! My mother has always had my sisters and I traveling the world in national dance competitions, conventions & workshops, performing at events, dance recitals & church programs. Now that I am older, survival, adulting & finances have come into play. Opportunities have transformed into paying gigs, such as videoshoots, tours & shows with well-known artists such as TLC, TINASHE, NE-YO, SY ARI DA KID, T.I, Lil JJ & Chris Brown’s Current Choreographer Josh Smith. Who happens to be the root and motive behind sharing my story. I came to Atlanta with no children & now have a five-year-old that I am struggling to raise alone while pursuing my dream. I have been homeless, dance jobs/opportunities have been pulled behind my back by his very own father! I work hard, just graduated Barber school Oct 24th of this year. I am a professional dancer who picked up other trades to make an honest living. My son Jaidyn Smith and I have been homeless and house jumping for almost two years since his father changed the locks on our home and left to choreograph for Chris Brown. However, that has not stopped us. In the midst of trial, deception and betrayal, I have built my own media company Charm Services 313 LLC. By the grace of God, I just received a diploma in Barbering all while raising my son with limited support. The world has a way of making you feel useless so I’ve been working every day to position myself and my business to be resourceful in more ways than one. I accept my trail and downfalls just as much as I do my accomplishments. I felt strongly about sharing my story not to expose anyone else’s character but to shine light on mine and all I’ve endured, overcome and grown from through the grace of God. My truth may help the next man/woman avoid certain mistakes I made. However, if I never share, they will never know!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some struggles are not having stability! My son not having his own room to wake up and go to sleep in while being connected to someone who has the ability and opportunity to do something about it but chooses to turn a blind eye. There is nothing smooth about being the CEO of a company, single mother, professional entertainer and barber. Only God himself has seen me through the ups and downs and impossibilities I’ve faced. However, I have to thank any and everyone who has lend a helping hand or opened their home to my son and I, especially my son’s Godparents..
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Charm Services not only edit, film and photograph commercial and diversified events but we also offer artist development sessions, private dance lessons for adults and children as well as provide opportunities and training to other working dancers in the city. What I am most proud of as a company is capturing the charming moments of people’s lives that will last a lifetime. It is proof that just for a moment, things were picture perfect. I thank God for blessing me with the #ThirdEye the skill and ability to be able to capture my clients’ most charming memories. I have done photography for A-list Celebrity 2Chainz. His BET-Awards after-party and the “Pretty Girls Love Trap Music” concert in Det, Mi. We have also done live concert photography for R&B singer Ashante and rap Artist Ja Rule in concert at the Buckhead theater! Atlanta has honestly set the platform for so many opportunities and Charm Services 313 LLC desires nothing more than to continue producing, choreographing and capturing life’s most charming moments. Quality Videography/Photography services are one of the many services #CharmServices has to offer. Personalized service and quality care for each client us what sets my company apart from others. However, I am running this on my own so I wanted to let other people know I am looking for a team to help me broaden my services connect and continue on the quest of charming people’s lives one service at a time.
What were you like growing up?
Something kind of like I am now. Fearless, full of life, passion and compassion. I was prom Queen at Cass Technical High School in 2009, the same school Big Sean graduated from. As an adult, I try to remain free-spirited and unboxed in as I once was as a kid. It’s challenging to channel but nonetheless bubbly, goofy, precise and always on a mission to create.
