Today we’d like to introduce you to Charmaine Gibbs-West.
Hi Charmaine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Today, I consider myself a wellness entrepreneur. I am an organic skin and hair care formulator, a business founder, as well as a co-founder of a women’s not-for-profit, and a holistic lifestyle advocate.
In my former life, I worked at an investment bank in New York City. After September 11, my husband (then boyfriend) and I left NY to move to his family’s farm in Nashville. Farm life inspired a deep transformation in me. Newly vegan and smitten with fresh-picked vegetables, I started studying various healing modalities.
From there, I would craft skincare products infused with therapeutic essences such as superfoods, herbs, essential oils and crystals. I also began teaching self-care practices to gatherings of women.
Our handcrafted products, combined with my wellness events and teachings, became known as EssenceTree Holistic Life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am blessed because God has shown me grace at every turn. However, I truly feel that entrepreneurship can be your greatest test.
I have struggled tremendously with self-worth issues during this journey. So, although Spirit gave me instructions to follow, I doubted the outcome for a very long time.
This fear caused me to stall and lose momentum for years in my business.
We’ve been impressed with EssenceTree, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
EssenceTree is a holistic beauty and lifestyle brand. We are primarily known for our superfood skin and hair care products that are sold in Whole Foods. What sets us apart is our dedication to our customers’ wellbeing.
I started EssenceTree to remind women of who they are. Their power, their magic. So, I created intentional beauty products that ensured the practice of self-care rituals with each use. All of our products are consciously crafted and infused with healing ingredients and soulful essences.
EssenceTree is extremely committed to education. I’m proud to have taught holistic education to over 5,000 people, with topics such as meditation, plant-based remedies, and building wellness empires.
Most recently, we launched a successful initiative known as “Hair Wealth”. It is a 7-day program that teaches holistic remedies for ending hair loss.
No other beauty brand is as dedicated to wellness as we are.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories include seeing the trees of Philadelphia turn colors in the Fall. I felt so in awe of their beautiful reds, golds and oranges. I have always felt a special connection to trees. I feel that they are very spiritual. Hence the name, EssenceTree 😉
