Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Maiocco.
Chelsea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began playing piano around 6 or 7 years old because my older brother played, and then I started singing and teaching myself guitar around the age of 12. At the age of 14, I played my first gig at Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee House in Roswell, and I’ve been playing gigs since. From Florida, Alaska, and Montana, even on a cruise boat, I now play at the Ritz-Carlton weekly, lead worship at varying churches in the area, and can still be found at some local coffee houses.
Within the last year, I’ve released several singles, and plan to release more. Song-writing, singing, and playing is a significant part of my life and regardless if I’m playing gigs or if I have a following, I know it’s something I’ll continue for the rest of my life.
Has it been a smooth road?
Considering that most of the road has been through high school, college, and just overall growing up, not particularly, however, looking back it’s all been worth it. I didn’t like much of myself in high school, including my voice, but I still sang frequently for small gigs and a worship band at my school. I moved to Florida for college and quickly picked up gigs in the area, which was encouraging, but I still wasn’t confident with how I sounded.
I lived in Alaska and Montana the following summers (2015 and 2016), where I played in the local towns. These places really knocked me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to rest easy in performing. In March of 2017, I had my tonsils removed and several others surgeries are done and found myself scared that I wouldn’t be able to sing again. It took around 2 months of healing, but I found my voice stronger than ever.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a singer-songwriter, who plays gigs, weddings, and private events in the Atlanta and North Atlanta area. I play piano and guitar and offer a noteworthy sound that stands out from the rest. I am known for my unique covers and stunning originals. I am proud of the vulnerability within my music, as well as the laid-back vibe that I provide with the sound I play. I believe the distinctive qualities of my voice and playing set my apart from others, as well as the songs I write.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do believe that our city is a good place for a business like mine, as there are plenty of places for live music opportunities. If someone was just starting out, I would absolutely recommend them to start out here, or any area where there is a high concentration of live music.
