Meet Chelsea Szegidewicz of Chelsea Shag Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Szegidewicz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started from a spark of passion as a young child. Music made me feel so alive. I danced, I sang, I was in love with music. I became a student of the guitar at 11-years-old. I just kept going with it; it was my thing. I had the vision at a young age that I’d be a “Rock Star”. So, that’s what I kept in mind all these years. I just wanted to rock and roll.

I’ve been going to open mic nights since I was 12. I did everything I could just to get out and get experience. I started singing at restaurants to pay my bills. I attended the Atlanta Institute of Music after high school and got to hone in on my craft.

After school in 2013, I made it an official LLC and branded myself as Chelsea Shag. I met Madison Records at that time, and I’ve been working with them ever since. We’re signing a deal this year together. It’s been a beautiful and a challenging journey getting to where I am, but I look forward to what’s coming next… MORE MUSIC.

Has it been a smooth road?
So many struggles. I’ve had people use me for my talent in negative ways. I’ve had deals with managers who didn’t truly care for my well being. I’ve had a lot of people, and opportunities fall through, but here I am stronger than ever and with the right people surrounding me.

It just takes a lot of mistakes to really understand what you want… that’s the ultimate struggle. It all works out in the end. There will always be struggles, and there will always be a celebration. I’d also say another challenge in the music industry is that it is so saturated with low-quality music and artists.

It’s hard to stand out nowadays, that’s why it’s important to just dig deep into who you are as an artist. Be original, and you’ll stand out.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chelsea Shag Music – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My business is Music. I write for other artists, and I write for myself – Chelsea Shag.

My job as a songwriter is to tell my truth and to make it feel good and sound as catchy as possible. My job as a performer is to be the person the audience can depend to make them feel at ease, light and to feel like they can be themselves. I uplift people, that’s my main job, and I love doing it.

I’d say my songwriting, and guitar skills set me apart from a lot of artists here and around the world. I care so much about musicianship and being well rounded as a musician. I just want to keep on getting better at what I do.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love our city best for its diversity. I love that we’ve got live music every night of the week here. I love how our city has trees everywhere. I love the history; I love the culture here.

I’d say what I like least in Atlanta is that it seems people don’t care much here about recycling and cleaning up after themselves. I’ve noticed that by living at Piedmont Park. I think people take things for granted. I wish people would be more aware of the waste they’re creating.
