Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Whittington.
Chelsea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey as a communicator spans more than 25 years having worked in for profit, non-profit, educational and governmental entities. The experience gained in all of these environments brought me to the crossroads of entrepreneurship. I started in the fall of 2015 with a client here and there working on events and small projects. As word got out that I was branching out, clients began coming out of woodworks inquiring about my services!
I stepped out on faith and launched my business full-time on March 30, 2019 which was also my 47th birthday! Of course, I was a bit nervous leaving the comforts of a 9-5 with benefits, but God said I was ready and I trust Him!
Today, my portfolio of clients is vast and diverse. The best part is that some of my clients are places where I used to work! They trust and believe in my brand and I stand on my word to deliver first rate public relations and brand building services at all times.
I have introduced new platforms that expose my clients to wider audiences and have added three team members! The journey has just begun, and I can’t wait to see all of the greatness that awaits!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth. I struggled with wanting to stay comfortable in my day job but also wanting to do things my way, in a big way.
I also serve as a professor at two local universities so, there is the challenge of balancing the various roles I play.
I am a wife so this is my most important role. Thankfully, my husband is my number one motivator and supporter so it makes it easier as I work to strike a balance in all that I do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the C WHITT PR story. Tell us more about the business.
C WHITT is a PR consulting firm under the sole proprietorship of seasoned communications professional Chelsea Whittington. Areas of focus include public relations, social media strategy and communications training/coaching.
I AM A STELLAR COMMUNICATOR! Because I have been working in PR for so long in the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland, I became the “Olivia Pope” of the region long before I started my company. It was only a matter of time before I made the leap to entrepreneurship.
The advent of social media catapulted me to the next level. I studied and even teach social media strategy and used this skill set couple with my writing, speaking, voiceover and branding skills to create a service that is not yet popular in my community.
I have been fortunate to create a niche of doing branding for small businesses mostly located in my hometown of Gary, Indiana. My city is poised for an economic rebound and I have a front seat providing what is needed most… IMAGE ENHANCEMENT!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The exciting part about what I do is that I cannot really peg where my business will go! But trust, I am in it for the long haul. I constantly study the trends of social media, traditional media, and most of all the needs of my clients and the demographics.
I see my team expanding and our services reaching other parts of the country as word of the C WHITT brand continues to grow.
Lastly, merchandising will definitely be a part of my business! I am in the lab creating things now that I know people will want and this will expand my brand even further!
