Today we’d like to introduce you to Chemajah “Coco B” Watkins.
Hi Coco B, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since a youngin’ in my pre and early teenage years I’ve always loved makeup. My sister (ni) who I grew up with was into hair, and that was her thing. It still is to this day (shout-out to both my sister’s Ni & Deija they do amazing with the hair btw!) But so we would be playing with the dolls and she (Ni) would be the one trying different hairstyles on the bratz’ heads or practicing how to braid! She was a natural at that, so naturally, I wanted to have that niche where it could come natural to me too! so I started doing my eyebrows since that’s what I was better at. Lol. I can’t slay hair like how she does only certain styles.. but I always knew how to look good! lol. So from the age of 14 I really dove deep into self care and blossoming, so I started to apply my own makeup on my face. Let’s just say practice makes perfect, because by the time I was 16 I was pretty decent with doing makeup (for that age and area). I started to ponder and learn more about makeup and Cosmetics not just for appeal but to actually gain knowledge on what products to use and why to use these products.
Eventually, after turning 18, I immediately sought out and told myself that this is something that I wanted to pursue because I have something special here. So I started practicing on my friends and lady family members to see what potential I had in creating unique looks for other women. Through trial and error, a long hiatus, a comeback and now swinging full force I am a force to be reckoned with when It comes to makeup. I have studied and studied over the years while being a self-taught freelance MUA to then transitioning into a Certified Makeup Artist as of June 2021. I have accomplished a lot in 6 years that I never thought I would’ve been able too had I not stuck through and followed my passion!
Now I own my own Business as Self MUA and have a beauty brand Cocobeats Makeup Cosmetics LLC. I’m now booked on monthly basis, I’ve built strong positive reports and relationship with local businesses and people, Networking with all types of influencers and important companies! It’s amazing how having the right attitude and being personable to people will get you far. Staying true to yourself, putting in the grind and hustle and bustle you will absolutely achieve what you want too achieve out of life! All I can do is Thank My Creator Everyday and live up to the expectations set out for me!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is an easy road. And just because you get off that bumpy road and travel down a smooth road, don’t mean the bumps won’t come back.
Because they will, and when you least expect it. I say that too say this I’ve had struggles of life preventing me from reaching points of achievements.
Times like where I had no car to get to my appointments and having to cancel or reschedule last minute does strain your business or people taking advantage of you financially like scamming you or don’t pay you for your worth will discourage your mind. All these different things I’ve had happened to me and yet I’m still here and I’m still getting business. Why? Because I didn’t let that stop me nor defeat me, if anything it made me go way harder in being a legit business owner and handling my business correctly. I can never tell how the day will go because people and things are unpredictable so I like to always be ahead of the game and never take anything too personal because the world is going through a lot right now. So I take it one day at a time and handle it as best to my ability without interference to business or an inconvenience to me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

Models shooting for their creative occasions I cater to them too. Fashion shows and child runways I Doll them up as well! I specialize in Natural Enhancements. I know that sets me apart because I love to enhance the beauty already painted on and make them Confidentally Glow with a stunning outcome! I do like to do Glam faces & go all out crazy with the dramatic looks BUT nothing beats that subtle natural Glow!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My natural characteristic is attentivnes. Definitely listening to what the client wants and their specifications is a key quality of mines. No one is the same and that’s another thing I love about doing makeup is each client I have are soo different it keeps me on my toes of making sure I’m on top of my game! I’m a straight forward honest person so I handle things if a problem persist in a professional manner because I know situations can be handle if communicated properly and also it helps because I’m an outgoing personable person naturally so I like to conversate. I engage with my clients so their comfortable with me and my personality reassuring them they’re in good hands!
