Today we’d like to introduce you to Chenise and Ryan Lockett.
Chenise and Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When we first moved to Atlanta, my husband worked a typical 9-5 and I pursued my acting career. Husband lost his job when his company was bought out by another company all in a matter of three months. It would eventually lead to us eventually losing everything.
During that time, we prayed and fasted every day for hours on what God wanted us to do next as it seems none of the efforts we were making on our own we’re working. My husband got a vision from God. It came in the middle of the night. God gave him a full blueprint of the company, “Lockett Entertainment” and a huge play called ”The Rookie Solider.” He not only gave us the blueprint and the play but he gave us purpose and identity for our company.
Thus, Lockett Entertainment was born! We write, direct, film and come up with all the creative content for our original plays, skits and spoken words. We also collaborate with artists seeking to spread the gospel through the arts.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes, the road has been as smooth as chunky peanut butter! Haha!
The road to entrepreneurship definitely has its challenges. We’re starting a business from the ground up! We don’t have any references or anyone doing what we feel God has called us to do so we have to figure a lot out on our own. We also welcomed a beautiful baby boy into our lives and that added a whole new dynamic as well.
My advice to anyone starting out is to do your research, know what problem you’re solving. How can your business solve a problem? Also, don’t be afraid to do something that you’re passionate about even if there are 10000 people doing the same thing or if no one is doing it. If you feel God has given you the vision for it, then go forth! He will bless it and give you the blueprint on how to execute!

Lockett Entertainment is all about building God’s kingdom through the arts! Everything we do is about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ!
We seek to see people give their life to Christ & walk-in purpose! The messages in our plays are given to us directly from God. We don’t aim to only tell interesting stories but LIFE altering stories. We want our audience to see themselves in one of our characters, to know that they’re not the sum of their mistakes and things that go on in their lives but that God loves them and desires to give them the best and pull the best out of them.
We put on plays around Georgia. We come to you! We can do parties, dinners, appreciation ceremonies, Easter plays, NYE services, pop up plays, etc!
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I feel like there are a lot of opportunities that women are positioned for!
I’m particularly loving the movement of the women in media! Especially black women directors, writers, actresses and the stories that are being told. It makes me so happy to see representation and that our stories are finally being told and most importantly by US! I love that women are being empowered to use their creativity and minds however they choose and that they’re able to share it with the world! It’s beautiful!
