Hello, my name is Cherise Crisp I am 26 years old and I am the owner of Pure Royalty Collection I started Pure Royalty because after having my second son, I suffered from postpartum depression very bad… I truly had lost myself as a woman and an individual. I was very angry, bitter and just really unhappy with myself and life in general. December 7th, I had to make a life-changing decision and it was then when I cried out to God and said I didn’t want to do it my way anymore. I didn’t want to be this way anymore so I rededicated my life to Christ in January 2020. Once I did that, God gave me all of what I needed to get back to Cherise & Self Care played a HUGE roll in that. I’ve always just played in makeup and stuff as a hobby, but God gave me the vision to turn my hobby into a second career!
I started out offering Mink Eyelash Extension Services & Selling Strip Lashes and as I got the hang of that and building my clientele, I started to throw in homemade lip gloss, skincare/lip care products and recently hair extensions. Now, I’m literally a one-stop-shop for all your beauty needs! I have a scripture I quote in my business “ You Are All Together Beautiful My Darling, There is No Flaw in You” Solomon 4:7 and I stand on that! For the simple fact, I want to make ladies who’ve gone through postpartum depression just like me, or domestic violence, terminal/chronic illnesses, traumatic experiences that may have caused cosmetic changes to know that no matter what you endure, you’re still beautiful and you will overcome.
Every woman deserve my time and in that me a time you need to practice self-care because when you look good you feel good and when you feel good, you’re in a positive mindset and are not only in a positive mindset, but a healthy mindset & having those two things really does affect how you operate… Especially Us Mommies !! We definitely have to be in a great mindset to raise these babies!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way! smooth road where? I struggled so much in the beginning, I used to get scammed a lot to the point I literally was like, man forget this business! and then I’d always have a little voice in my head like “No, You Can’t Give Up, You Have A Purpose, Your Business Has A Purpose.”
So, I literally would sit on YouTube for hours watching DIY or just like signing up for business groups to get tips and help and I do everything on my own. Which can be very overwhelming sometimes, but when I get feedback and see someone has purchased from me, it makes it worth it!
I also struggled and still struggle with social media… building a business from scratch on social media is SO MUCH WORK, but I’ve kind of gotten the just of it so it’s getting better. Another thing is pricing. Now that I’ve been getting more exposure and more customers, a lot of people say “I’m cheating” myself and they’re definitely right. However I’m so stuck on pleasing the people lol, but another young entrepreneur came to me and was like “Girl, your prices are your prices, somebody will feel it” and she’s exactly right, I have good quality products and when you compare prices to big stores or cosmetic lines… people definitely get over. So, I recently just up’d my prices and sales have still been steady!!
Please tell us about Pure Royalty Collection.
Pure Royalty is literally a One-Stop Shop for all things beauty! anything beauty, we may did not have it not, but we will!! I originally started out as I said doing Mink Eyelash Extensions & Lip Gloss, but then COVID-19 happened and I had to slow down because I’m in the medical field and things just got crazy!
However, instead of stopping my business completely, I linked with my sister who ended getting laid off due to COVID-19 and I hired her to be like a chemist for me. We began to make whipped body butter, lip/body sugar scrubs, and I reformulated my lip gloss! We’re also in the process of making hair essentials for all those naturalistas out there and even people who get a relaxer or suffer from thin and brittle hair!
I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that all my products are like sweet treats, but still healthy and good for your body! I love food, especially sweets so I said, why not make a sweet treat cosmetic line! It’s kind of like a plot twist !! People who can’t have calories, my products smell so good, I believe after using them they’ll satisfy the craving while hydrating and moisturizing their skin! The most proud thing is my growth and getting the customer’s feedbacks! It makes me feel good because I doubt myself sometimes, but to know people love my products as much as I do is so rewarding!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is when my mom sent me to Ohio for the summer to spend with my uncle! Me and my cousin Cheyenne wanted to ride down to the lake, but we weren’t allowed.
Not listening, we still decided to go and as soon as we got to the lake, the BIGGEST storm ever occurred omg, we got caught up and had to rush back home and barely made it! It was the funniest thing ever I never ran home so fast in my life… just to STILL GET IN TROUBLE!
That summer was the greatest my uncle used to have us doing so many things kickball, races, dance competitions, the roast session you name it we did it! He passed back in 2012. I know if he’d see me now, he’d be so proud!
