Today, we’d like to introduce you to Cherrie McRae. Cherrie was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Cherrie McRae.
Cherrie, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story will always be so intriguing to me because I set out on my acting path many years ago back in College (2000). It was only when I graduated college however, I was hard pressed from family to use my main focus, my Business Degree to pursue a corporate career opportunity soon after graduating, causing about a decades worth of a sabbatical from the arts. Fast forward to 2011, the church I attended at the time, put on a pretty big Christmas Day stage production, The stage director asked that I be apart, unaware of my theatrical past, but I opted out and allowed my son to join the ensemble instead. Being present at all of his rehearsals for several weeks leading up to the production, watching the cast tell such a real, heartwarming story re-ignited my desire to pursue the arts again, and although I was a fulltime nine-to-fiver and a part-time radio dj at the time, It was then I began to search out a path to rejoin the acting community.
Alright, so we’d love to learn more about your acting career. What should we know?
I am finally at fulltime working actor and work locally here in Atlanta. And although I travel quite a bit and work in multi-markets, The southeast is my home base, for now (wink). What am I proud of? Let me really think about this question, because I don’t want to give a watered down response. I am most proud of the fact, during all stages of my acting journey, I kept a humble head. My career has gone through so many transitions from unpaid gigs to little pay gigs to now seemingly paid what I feel I am worth. I am also very proud that I placed my sights on joining the Union many years ago, and successfully executed that goal as well. Regardless of the need to be apart of the SAG AFTRA community or not, it was a personal goal that demonstrated to me, I am here to take my career as an actor seriously and this action confirms that FOR ME, regardless of GA being a right to work state. The decision was a hurdle I witnessed years ago from a distant. I told myself I’d leap over that hurdle and did so seamlessly…I haven’t stopped working since.
Cherrie McRae has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Cherrie and your experience with them.
I am a full time SAG AFTRA artist. A professional television and film actor and film director who currently resides in Atlanta, GA but travels and works in multi-markets as well.
