Meet Cherry Chandra of The Cherry Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherry Chandra.

Hi Cherry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my mural journey in 2015, after moving from Indonesia to the US, with a love for bold colors, organic shapes, and storytelling rooted in culture and nature. What began as illustration quickly evolved into large-scale murals that allowed me to connect with people in a powerful and public way.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve painted walls across the US and internationally, worked with brands like Instagram and Rimowa, and created public art for the City of Atlanta, Chamblee, and SCAD Serve. My goal has always been the same – to bring joy, wonder, and a sense of belonging through every mural I create.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was really tough in the beginning. As an international student, I wasn’t allowed to take on freelance work. Thankfully, SCAD supported me by employing me within the school and acting as my agent, which opened doors I couldn’t have accessed on my own. That early support gave me a huge push and led to my first real opportunities in public art.

Even now, the journey isn’t always easy. I still apply to tons of grants and projects. Atlanta has an incredibly taleneted pool of artists, ad the competition is real. But I’ve learned to enjoy the process. Every project, every “yes” and “no,” keeps me growing. And that persistence, combines with a deep love for what I do is what keeps me going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Cherry Studio?
The Cherry Studio is my creative business that blends my love for murals and illustration, specializing in commercial murals and public art that bring color, story, and personality to spaces. While murals are at the heart of what I do, I’m also excited to explore more opportunities in illustration—especially for packaging and book covers, which have always been a quiet passion of mine. What sets me apart is how I translate a client’s vision through my own visual language, creating bold, joyful work that grabs attention and leaves a lasting impression. Alongside mural and illustration design and consultation, I occasionally sell prints, stickers, and merch like Tshirts and tote bags at local pop-up markets to stay connected with the community.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is seeing my work bring a client’s vision to life in a way that genuinely move them. WHen someone tells me they love what I’ve created for them, when it clicks, visually, and emotionally, there’s no better feeling. That connection and shared joy is what drives everything I do.
