Meet Cheryl Williams of Vineyard Consulting, LLC.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Williams.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my professional journey with a simple but powerful belief: education changes lives. I understood early on that access, opportunity, and the right support systems can make the difference between potential unrealized and purpose fulfilled. That belief has guided every step of my career.
I started in higher education focused on recruitment, retention, and student support, eventually serving in multiple leadership roles at the University of Florida. There, I had the privilege of leading statewide initiatives, managing multimillion-dollar grants, and collaborating with legislators and institutions to improve outcomes for underserved and underrepresented students. That experience sharpened my strategic thinking and deepened my commitment to equity-driven systems change.
Today, as a Professor, I work directly with first-year and first-generation students, teaching, mentoring, and designing culturally responsive learning experiences that support persistence and completion. I value the policy and executive-level work I have done. Being in the classroom keeps me grounded. It reminds me why the strategy matters.
Throughout my journey, I have grown from practitioner to leader, from implementer to architect of initiatives. My aspiration now is to continue leading at a level where I can shape systems, strengthen institutions, and build environments where every student, regardless of background, has a clear pathway to success.
At the core of my story is service, strategy, and a deep commitment to helping people realize what is possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road, and I am grateful for that.
I faithfully acknowledge my indebtedness towards my family’s pursuit of higher education. They blazed trails that provided a blueprint. That blueprint provided a diving board for me to develop my vision, faith, and work ethic. Even with that foundation, I had to learn how systems operate while navigating them. Early in my career, I often found myself as the only woman, or one of very few leaders of color, at decision-making tables. That came with pressure. I had to prove my credibility before my ideas were heard. I had to lead with excellence even when resources were limited and expectations were high.
There were also moments when initiatives I believed in faced resistance. Advancing equity-driven programs, advocating for underserved students, and pushing for systemic change is not always comfortable work. It requires resilience, diplomacy, and staying focused on the mission when progress feels slow.
On a personal level, balancing high-level leadership responsibilities with teaching, mentoring, and family commitments required discipline and clarity. I have had seasons where I had to stretch beyond what felt comfortable. But every stretch developed capacity.
What I have learned is this: struggle refines strategy. It strengthens your voice. It builds emotional intelligence. The obstacles did not derail me; they sharpened me. They taught me how to lead with influence rather than position, how to build coalitions, and how to remain grounded in purpose.
So no, it has not been smooth—but it has been meaningful. And every challenge has prepared me to lead at a higher level with greater wisdom and greater impact.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Professionally, I operate at the intersection of higher education leadership, training and development, and strategic consulting. As a professor and executive leader, I specialize in student success strategy, first-year experience design, retention initiatives, and large-scale program implementation. Through my work as a Maxwell Leadership Certified Team Member, I provide transformational leadership training grounded in practical application and measurable growth. I equip individuals and teams with proven principles that strengthen influence, communication, and strategic decision-making. My coaching focuses on clarity, confidence, and execution, helping leaders move from intention to disciplined action. As a speaker, I deliver high-impact, value-driven messages that inspire personal responsibility and organizational excellence. Every session is designed not just to motivate, but to produce sustainable leadership results.
But beyond the titles, what I’m really known for is this: I build environments where people grow.
Whether I’m teaching first-generation college students, coaching leaders, facilitating workshops, or designing strategic plans, my work is grounded in intentional inclusion, leadership development, and measurable impact. I do not just create programs; I create frameworks that are sustainable. I connect vision to execution. I align mission with data. And I make complex strategies accessible and actionable.
What sets me apart is the combination of classroom credibility, executive leadership experience, and policy-level strategy. I have worked at the state level to shape initiatives, and I have worked one-on-one to mentor students. That range gives me perspective. I understand both the human side of transformation and the structural side of institutional change.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that my name is associated with integrity, excellence, and results. My brand represents thoughtful leadership, high standards, and a deep commitment to underserved communities. When people engage my services, whether through training, consulting, speaking, or academic leadership, they receive substance, strategy, and heart.
What I want readers to know is simple: my work is about impact. If I attach my name to something, it will be intentional, mission-driven, and designed to create lasting change.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I appreciate most about this city is its momentum. There is a strong sense of growth, innovation, and possibility here. I am especially drawn to the diversity of talent and the commitment to education, entrepreneurship, and community impact. Cities that are evolving create space for visionary leadership, and I am energized by environments where collaboration and forward thinking are valued.
If I am honest, what I like least is something many growing cities face—rapid expansion without equitable access. Growth is powerful, but it must be intentional. When infrastructure, affordability, or opportunity do not expand at the same pace as development, certain communities can feel left behind. I’m passionate about ensuring progress benefits everyone, not just a few.
That said, I do not see challenges as negatives; I see them as leadership opportunities. Every city has areas for improvement. What matters is whether the people within it are willing to engage, innovate, and build solutions. That is the kind of work I am always excited to be part of.
