Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Farmer.
Hi Cheyenne , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Patsie Girl Natural creates luxurious body care products using simple, clean and natural ingredients, giving black women a safe yet effective solution to include in their self care regimen.
I’m Cheyenne, the founder and Patsie Girl is my mother, a nick name lovingly given to her by my Great grandmother. I’m a Los Angeles native, living in Atlanta for the past 10 years.
When I was about 30 years old, my doctor diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. Because no one in my family has this condition, I researched and discovered a lot of our favorite body care products contain pretty horrible ingredients like formaldehyde releasers, which can affect the endocrine system. I learned that the body lotion I had been using for well over a decade contain such ingredients. I then learned that roughly 75% of body, skin and hair care products targeting black women contain toxic ingredients.
I began making my own whipped shea butter (compliments of YouTube University), to take a more natural approach. At first, it was a hobby. But, I took a chance and participated in a craft fair at work and sold out of all of my butters and that’s when Patsie Girl was born and we now have a complete body care line of clean products that consists of Foaming Sugar Scrub, Foaming Body Wash, Body Butter or cream and lastly, Body Oil. We currently sell online via our website, as well as pop ups and Farmers Markets around the Atlanta Metro area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been easy. Patsie Girl initially launched in 2012. Being green in the entrepreneurial space, I had no clue as to what I was doing, so I tried some of everything to see what would stick. I didn’t know anything about how to run a business, so quite frankly, I did everything wrong. Needless to say, that left me extremely frustrated…and broke! We relaunched in February this year (2025), and although I don’t have it all figured out, I feel like I’m in a much better place this time. Participating in a 12 week business cohort, with Our Village United, has equipped me with tons of tools and resources to use in my business daily.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently work a full time job. I have a background in leadership, with over 10 years in Operations Management. It’s a job.
I’m more proud of the fact that I’m a self taught (mostly) formulator. I truly enjoy researching ingredients, learning their functions and how they interact with other ingredients, to create either something people will love! Or, a complete dud.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy?
– Tacos
– Spicy mango margaritas
– Slow mornings
– Sunflowers
These are just a few things that makes me happy. They are simple, but the easiest way to get a smile out of me.
On a more serious note, spending time with my loved ones truly makes me happy.
As well as making quality products for women that are good!
