Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Clip.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Chris Covington. Most call me Chris Clip or just Clip. It was a nickname I got from back home playing basketball with my 10th-grade aau team that happened to just carry over in everything I do now. Now, I have moved on from hoop dreams and have dreams of one day conquering all aspects of entertainment. As for now, I’m an entrepreneur that is blessed with the abilities of being a visual artist and an event host.
Growing up, I was usually the youngest one in the room so being around older people taught me a lot about how to listen and analyze. I use this skill in a lot of what I do today. This along with my parents having me very involved with extracurricular activities growing up, also helped with my social skills, in which I credit most of my success. Without the ability to connect to others, my life would look a lot different. Forming genuine relationships and has brought me farther than I ever expected.
My first entertainment internship I gained from a great friend who happened to be friends with the execs at the business. From this internship, I learned a lot about work ethic and how the industry really is: few friends, some smiles, and all business. I was eventually fired from that internship and was told that I didn’t take photography serious enough. This has always been a fuel to go harder with anything I do. I always felt like I owed myself the mission to prove them wrong. This would go on to jump-start my focus in visual arts and take my talents to another level.
From then on, I tried to learn as much as I can from those in the positions I aspired to be in. I interned for different production companies so I could eventually start my own (Optic Proction is now two years old). I would watch my friends who host events and would pay attention to their cadence and crowd control so that when I do get on stage or behind a microphone, I would always be ready for the occasion. Everything I do has been practiced 1000 times over so that I can bring the best me in whatever I do.
One thing for sure, the love and support from everyone around me has pushed me beyond my beliefs. Whether I’m back home in Indianapolis or Atlanta or anywhere in the country, I’m always surrounded by love when I have events or just come to visit. The love and support is quite inspiring and unmatched and ultimately is what allows me to be successful.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been everything short of a smooth road lol. But I’m glad it wasn’t, it taught me how to figure out other ways to obtain my goal. I’ve been told no, ignored, laughed at, and shunned. It taught me how to call audibles efficiently. It also taught me how to use leverage.
Please tell us about Optic Production/The Social Club – what should we know?
Optic Production: a production company focused on bringing an idea to life visually. We possess a sharp eye for creativity. With that, we take a vision and turn it into an extraordinary and unforgettable moment. The thing I’m proud of most with this company is that it’s still up and running. Got off to a slow start, but nonetheless, it still is going and never quit.
The Social Club: The Social Club is an organization designed to connect young professionals within the city of Atlanta through social events that promote the importance of health & wellness, business & finance, arts & entertainment, & personal development.
This one is special. I’m proud of this company because it is like no other entity. It is based on helping others achieve their dreams and that’s what drives us and the company.
