Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Hamilton.
Chris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was 16 when I started to develop an interest in producing music, editing movies and taking pictures. I read a lot of books on the subject and begin making music with a program called Reason by Propellerhead. I was one of those guys that knew how to do things on Windows Movie Maker that no one was really doing. Often friends or family would give me footage or a camera and ask me to edit the footage. They did this because they knew that they would get back a pro video, on a DVD with a screen title and everything. For many years I was just playing around, but I remember when I really started to take an interest in the field. “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” had come out on DVD and my dad bought me the deluxe edition with the Behind the Scenes. I watched them filming the action sequences and I just knew that was what I wanted to do. When I was about 25 years old, I got my first camera and started to learn it! I read the manual and watched YouTube videos until I could use it expertly.
For about six years, I worked part-time in the videography field in order to support my volunteer ministry, teaching others about how Bible principles could help them have happy lives. For four of those years, I worked for a few corporations lighting, filming, and editing the training programs and sales events. I also learned to take what I know about audio mastering and apply it to my work to increase the professional level of the production. Now I use my skills to help small businesses get the kind of quality advertisement that big-time production companies offer to large corporations. We may be smaller than them, but our companies deserve the same quality ads they have, especially because small businesses offer better quality products as well as a more personal connection. I absolutely love the work that I do. Joy in work is so important! If there’s any advice that I would give to younger people wanting to get in this field, it would be this: love what you do, because if you love it, you will want to really learn it. So never stop learning!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t! I think one of the most difficult challenges I’ve faced was that having a chronic illness made it difficult for me to work consistently on larger projects. I have sickle cell anemia. In past times I’ve gotten sick during a project and had to delay in finishing. I’ve had to learn balance and patience with myself. However, I have not let it stop me from pushing forward and continuing to grow in every way I can, including in my field. I’m thankful to have a wonderfully supportive network of friends and family who have helped me overcome the hurdles and keep on enduring in my work. As of recently, the challenge has been that many are afraid of hiring a production agency, confusing them for the ever so flooded market of videographers. To those who may feel some trepidation in hiring a production company to take on their branding needs, I would simply say don’t be afraid to ask pointed questions. I like to work with my clients, not only to get them what they need to market their businesses successfully but also to show them where and how to market with video and audio advertising. Investing in a good quality ad is a great decision for your business. But never be afraid to ask an expert why. I promise we can help.
Please tell us about PeachLife Productions.
My company is focused on helping small businesses represent themselves on the market in a professional and entertaining way. I think what most proud of is the work I’ve put into producing films for small businesses that are unique to them only. For example, finding good quality royalty-free music for short film productions have been a challenge for many; however, because of my music production experience, I’ve been able to create new and unique music for each small company that I work with. I love seeing the look of excitement on people’s faces when they see their ad for the first time. Our company is also unique in that we spend one-on-one time with our clients making sure they get the results they want and then we show them how and where to use the new video marketing tool. We don’t just produce videos, we design them, especially for you! Using PeachLife Productions is like getting a custom suit or dress made, in the end, it’s going to fit you and only you.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Great question! I have had tons of cheerleaders and supporters over the years! I can’t thank them all enough. But they know who they are. To mention a few, though, my parents have really been key supporters in my success. They didn’t look at my goal as a dream but as something that I could accomplish, and they never let me give up. Not only that but they made sure I had the needed encouragement and environment to grow and thrive! For the past two years, I’ve been blessed to have by my side, my greatest inspiration, my beautiful wife! She’s seen all of my struggles and even my imperfections but she encourages me to keep on going, and she challenges me to aspire for the best version of myself. Because of her, I feel I have learned even more in the past two years than I did prior to marrying her. I’ve been able to continue rounding off my experience in green screen and chromakey technology as well as improving my skills in sound design and engineering. My parents and my wife have encouraged me to look at what I don’t know as an opportunity to learn and grow! I have no doubt that my company will continue to grow because of the people who believe in me.
