Meet Chris Lowry of Classic Impressions Portrait Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Lowry.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While studying graphic design at Savannah College of Art and Design, I decided to take an elective in photography. I discovered a true passion and a hidden talent. While at North Georgia Technical College studying photography, I met the person who was to become not only my partner in business, but my partner in life. Debbie and I were married in 1989 and opened Classic Impressions Portrait Studio in 1991. We have weathered a lot of ups and downs including an addition to the studio in 2000. This addition offered 1400 square feet of space and the ability to add fixed and movable backgrounds. We remain in the same studio today and along the way have added outdoor settings. Our goal is to remain here until retirement.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning you own studio rarely goes smoothly. Photography is your love and passion; however, the business aspect is also part of the deal. You really have to find a balance between the two. There will be ups and downs but in the end when you do what you love everyday it is worth it. We have been very fortunate and blessed. Classic is now in year 26.

Classic Impressions Portrait Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Classic Impressions is a portrait studio. In the beginning our focus was wedding. We were honored to be a part of one of the most important days of a person’s life. Throughout the years, as trends and demand has changed, we have been able to be flexible. Changing to keep up with new times is essential. Children’s photography and seasonal specials make up a large part of our focus at this point but senior high school portraits have made their way to the forefront. Senior portrait photography is very inspiring and calls for a great deal of creativity. It is also just a lot of fun.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My idea of success is feeling accomplished in what we do. If our customers see their portraits and immediately smile then I have been successful. Of course, the bills have to be paid, so financial success is important but satisfaction from our customers is success to me.
