Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Magby.
Christian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an actor and musician based in Atlanta! I’ve been performing and creating since the age of 12. I started training with the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta. Around the age of 15, I started creating my own musicals: producing, writing and directing them. My first show “Love DOES Cost a Thing” premiered at 7 Stages in Little 5 Points. Since then, I have created 4 other musicals, one musical movie, and projects for other companies and individual artists — which now to date, I have created just over 200 songs.
On the acting side, I have performed all over Atlanta. My first big show was at Aurora Theatre. I have performed at Alliance Theatre, Theatrical Outfit, Horizon Theatre Company, Theater Emory and Georgia Ensemble Theatre. Currently, I am represented by Abrams Artists Agency, Semler Entertainment, and JPervis Talent Agency. BFA from SCAD, 2016.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
HA! If it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth it. 80% of our job is being told no. With so many people trying to share the same screen and stage, there’s just not enough room for everybody. One of the hardest parts is to try to stay inspired even though you’re not accomplishing your goals at the time you want to.

Christian Magby – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Being an actor comes with many different areas, which include (but not limited to) acting for film and theatre, singing and dancing. On the music side of things, I cover a span of musical interests: composing, music directing, arranging, conducting, scoring and even teaching!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of my favorites would have to be our show “Mother of God” premiering at the Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival. It was extremely rewarding to hear my peers and colleagues tell me that the work we created actually touched and inspired them in some way. To have your work validated always feels like a step in the right direction. Being selected by the festival meant that our story was important, our music was heard and our message was clear. If I can just touch ONE person, I know that I’m on the right track.
