Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Ortiz.
Christian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always knew I wanted to use my talents to make a living. I’ve always been entrepreneurial. I faced many challenges in which I had to overcome in my life since I was a child, however I jump without fear and learn from experience and failure so I knew that when I got to the place I wanted to be, I’d have a lifetime of experience in life and business to help me through. Over time, I decided to take the corporate world approach. I worked for a highly reputable company in Columbus, Georgia for the last four years. I excelled at my job, however, I quickly realized that my passion for serving others and my creative spirit were being muffled and my daily stress was not worth it given my job.
In mid-October 2019, I decided enough was enough. I took the leap many consider to be one of the greatest risks of my life. With no real business plan and no idea of what I wanted to do, I had enough confidence in myself to know that whatever I decided to do, it would be better than where I was. Two days after resigning, I decided that I was going to use my skills and connections to help manage and market local businesses with their social media platforms. The day after, I obtained my business license. A week later, I obtained three clients. Now three months in, I manage businesses in both Columbus and Atlanta, Georgia.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road, however, the most amazing journeys traveled are met with the worst terrain. When you take an idea and create a world for yourself, it takes work to help everyone understand your vision. You learn the importance of communication, presentation, consistency, and follow-through. No one knows what your vision looks like, so learning the hundreds of ways to paint the picture to those you try to serve is a challenge. The secret to success is to remember that you will always face challenges. However, it’s how you choose to be creative and consistent that will set you apart from everyone else. You have to love what you do.
MOD ATLAS MEDIA – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have always said, if I was ever to have another child (boy or girl), I’d want to name them ‘Atlas.’ My kids are my guide in life and if it were not for them, I’d truly be lost. When I started this business, I treated it like a child. It was something I created that I needed to nurture and help grow successfully. With this concept in mind, I wanted Atlas to be a part of the name. My business is a modern guide to social media management. Hence, MOD ATLAS MEDIA was born. I’m a self-taught musician, photographer, music producer, promoter, artist, and whatever else you can think of that I can dabble in creatively. I am not the best at any of it, but I humbly admit that I’ve made somewhat of a name for myself given the resources available to me over the years.
When I started this media company, I wanted to use every one of those talents to my advantage while simultaneously representing my clients in their way. This means I have to deep-dive into the culture of my clients. I have to understand my clients in how they not only conduct business but what their vision is and how they service others. In addition, I provide my custom photography from ‘Modtography’ (my photography company) to help capture moments and tell a story through social media posts. We are in a mile-a-minute scrolling society. If your posts don’t capture someone’s eye through visual stimulus, then what you put out there will be overlooked. This is what sets me apart from everyone else. I don’t see anyone as competition. I collaborate with everyone. What I am most proud of as a company is that I genuinely support others and want to see our local businesses and individuals succeed for years to come.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Everyone that I have had the privilege of speaking with has truly been a mentor. You can learn something from anyone if you just listen. Good, bad or ugly. People are the greatest teachers, and most never know the knowledge they give to the observant ones. My proudest moment was seeing my children watch me start my business while being able to teach them everything I have learned along the way.
