Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Pope.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I personally used acupuncture in the 1980’s and 1990’s and was fascinated with it. Already having 3 college degrees, I couldn’t reconcile going back to school for another degree. Then because of some experiences in 2000 – 2004, I definitely decided I wanted to bring acupuncture to Dalton and began my journey of formally studying Chinese Medicine.
I started school in Atlanta but ended up studying at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine in Sugar Grove, NC.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was not altogether smooth. The first school I attended in Atlanta closed after a year so I had to start over in North Carolina. I attended school full time for 5 years as well as working four part-time jobs at the same time.
As Westerners, we tend to wait until we are ill to seek help. I have found it challenging to get people to come to acupuncture before something is wrong. Prevention goes a long way, so I try to educate people to come for acupuncture when they are extra stressed when the seasons change, or if they feel off. It is easier to treat before problems manifest.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I practice acupuncture at Bradley Wellness Center which is a large fitness and wellness center associated with Hamilton Healthcare in Dalton. Hamilton Healthcare includes the Hospital, doctors, physical therapy and rehab facilities, cardiac rehab, nutrition, and much more. I offer personalized care for those who want to get well or stay well.
As far as I know, I am the only full-time acupuncturist in Dalton.
What were you like growing up?
I was extremely shy and spent much of my time playing music. My first three degrees are in music and I still play professionally. I also tune and repair pianos. I am much more extroverted now but still sensitive.
I always loved swimming and spent hours in the pool growing up. I feel fortunate being at Bradley Wellness Center because I can swim whenever I want.
I was always an excellent student and participated in band and drama.
My main interest has always been how to overcome the challenges thrown my way and live simply and fully.
