Meet Christopher Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Murphy.

Hi Christopher, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began making beats in Georgia back in 2008. My boy Red came to my house and Downloaded FL studio on my desktop but it’s was only the demo at the time so that meant I couldn’t turn off my computer. He showed me how to make a beat once and from that point, I never stopped. I was just having fun like most, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that I wanted to change the game with the sound I was developing. My goal was always to creatively market myself so people knew me as a producer. I made beats all through high school and college with intentions to blow up before graduating. I had big dreams of going pro on the field or in the music industry. I never had a real interest being in the workforce all of my adulthood so that alone motivated me more because I felt like I was running out of time to succeed. Life showed me that you need to go through what you don’t want to receive what you do. So I worked hard, sometimes 3-4 jobs at one time and that makes me appreciate my craft more as an adult versus just being a kid who just knew how to make beats. In 2018 was my first time being in Detroit and it was a real culture shock for me. The music was different for me, like something I’ve never heard before. The way people rapped, how they played music in the club, the dancing, it was just all new. But I found a lane that added to my sound and helped me develop more as a producer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, self-doubt is always a factor when you’re trying to make something happen from the ground up. You also feel like everyone should be happy about your success but happiness comes from with in. Making tough decisions makes you the person that we’re meant to be. You have to put your head down and just grind it out once that choice is made.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think I have an interesting background. Being from New York and living in Brooklyn during the time the hip I was king and then transition and down south to win the music became king in Georgia I just always felt like everything was just in my face and that made me want to be a part of it. Even though I currently do reside in Detroit and I didn’t even move there with intentions to make music. But somehow, the Midwest sound is one of the more popular styles of music that’s going around in the hip-hop world and so I just like to incorporate all of my backgrounds into what I do musically and from a producers point of view.

What matters most to you?
Succeeding means the most to me. I want to leave a legacy behind for my family.
