Today we’d like to introduce you to Chu!o.
Chu!o, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got my love for music from my mother, who played different genres in the house growing up. By the age of 12, I was playing the trumpet, writing raps, and singing in the church choir. In high school, I joined a group called “D-Boyz” that gained local fame with a song called “The Shopping Cart,” which later was licensed by Staples to use for their back to school campaign. That deal taught me how the music industry really works. Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to writing and releasing quality music to the world while finding ways the make a living with my art.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, anything worth having comes with a struggle. I’ve gone through everything from being broke to falling out with friends due to a lack of support. My biggest struggle was losing my mother, who was my biggest supporter, to Lymphoma cancer.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am an artist, performer, and songwriter. I specialize in making music to evoke emotion in people. I’m known for my consistency in releasing quality music. I’m most proud of my versatility. What sets me apart is my ability to adapt and make whatever kind of music I want.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My short term plan is to release this new collaboration project I’ve done with my friend and fellow artist Niro, called “GodBrothers.” My long term plan is to release enough great music to position myself in the industry where I’m being called upon to write music for big artists and step out of the performer spot.
