Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Sanders.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started my Instagram back in 2013, when Instagram just became hot, as a social media app. I was doing Rihanna fan art, and people would repost and tag Rihanna in my artwork. It got to the point where she finally followed me on Instagram! Even though I was ecstatic that she followed me, I was like “what’s next?” So I decided to go earn my bachelors degree at the University of Louisiana. So I moved from Laplace, Louisiana, to Lafayette. When I first moved out there I didn’t have a job for the first two months, so all I knew was how to paint and draw so I had to hustle to make ends meet with my finances by painting and drawing. So my name started a buzz around campus and around cities in Louisiana that I paint in that I can paint on graduation caps and logos in business started to rise, and here I am today, a better businesswoman and artist than I was eight years ago!
Please tell us about your art.
My art is pro-black, super positive, and encouraging of women. I see the beauty in everybody, so I preferred to paint people, but I can paint landscapes and other stuff, but I feel that painting, people are more interesting and making it extravagant with glitter, and bright colors, and executing in fine detail is what I strive for in my work. A lot of my personal pieces exude beauty, and I try to make the audience feel that power and confidence exuding from the painting back into you as a person.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Well, I can get lonely but I’m very active in the art scene & here in Louisiana there are endless amounts of artists, and even on social media like Instagram I’m very connected to a lot of artist outside of Louisiana. So I do talk to them when I feel like I might need advice or a lot of times will be at the same event, and we’ll just chat it up so staying active and reaching out to other artists and attending local art shows that other artists as well is a way to combat loneliness in this area work
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
