Cierra, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Most people in Atlanta are known to have multiple hustles or financial ventures. I am currently pursuing a degree in dental hygiene and I also have a part-time job. At the beginning stages of Cake Pops By C, I was just interested in helping my best friend out with her business launch party and I thought that some cute party favors could be cake pops! Simple, cute designs and something that also seemed thoughtful with a nice touch.
At this launch party, I got so many great reviews on my french vanilla cake pops that I decided that I would love to expose my beautiful cake pops to cake pop lovers across the Atlanta area. Being in a stressful school program, it’s nice to be able to put my creative side out there in an unconventional way. Even though I’m on the road to becoming a registered dental hygienist, it may seem ironic to be giving additional sugar to the masses, but enjoying cute and sugary treats (in moderation) is always welcomed! Just remember to brush and floss! I’m very passionate about the flavor combinations, customization aspects, and the beautiful designs of my cake pops! I am constantly coming up with new and different ways to elevate my cake pops and the aesthetic of my brand. I feel that being a small black-owned business owner who carefully crafts every cake pop on my own sets me apart from others!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, establishing this business has been a smooth journey! I love being able to work on each step in my process and continue to improve recipes, my brand aesthetic and any other detail that I see fit!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cake Pops By C – what should we know?
Cake Pops By C is my company and I specialize in making homemade cake pops! As of today, I have six flavors and eight dips that are able to be mixed and matched. I am always looking to expand my menu choices because I want any customer to be able to find a cure for their sweet tooth! So far, the crowd favorite has been my strawberry cake pops with fruity pebbles and a strawberry cheesecake dip! I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am a one-woman show and that I have a direct hand in all of the decisions, from the designing and baking of my cake pops to my business as a whole. I feel that there are other commercial choices for cake pops but my southern classics such as red velvet and key lime cakes and colorful yet beautiful designs are a nice change from just the typical cake pop!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that the characteristic that is most important to my success is very high-quality customer service. With each order I receive, I make sure to explain all of the delicious combinations and designs of their cake pops! I offer suggestions and really allow the customer to create their favorite dessert! I also deliver and I have a somewhat flexible schedule to reach most of the customers that reach out to me. I make sure to reach a personal goal of treating every customer with respect, going above and beyond to make sure that they are satisfied with their order, and delivering delicious cake pops! I believe that I have gained so much success from having that important quality.
