Meet City Rollers Founders of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to City Rollers Founders.

Hi City Rollers Founders, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are three women from Colombia who share the same passion: inline skating. Around 2019, we joined a local skating group in Atlanta called the Atlanta Peachtree Road Rollers. We absolutely loved the experience and are so grateful for everything we learned with them. However, as Latinas, we felt the need to create a space where we could express ourselves in our own language—Spanish—share our culture, and make other Latinos feel at home and empowered through skating.

That desire sparked the idea for City Rollers Skate Club, which we officially founded in February 2024. While we were inspired to represent our roots, our community is open to everyone—people from all backgrounds and cultures skate with us. Our mission is inclusion, empowerment, and joy through movement.

We became certified instructors and began offering skate classes for all levels. Every Thursday night, we hit the streets of Atlanta for our urban skate sessions, covering 8 to 15 miles. It’s a space where we connect with the city we love, listen to our favorite music, push our limits, socialize, and grow together as a vibrant, supportive community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any new venture, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been securing sponsors and funding to cover essential needs like equipment, uniforms, insurance, and marketing. These things are crucial for expanding our reach and growing our community, but they require resources that aren’t always easy to come by.

Despite those obstacles, our group remains strong, supportive, and deeply committed. We’re proud of the community we’ve built, and even though growth has been gradual, it’s been steady and meaningful. Every person who joins brings new energy, and that keeps us moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
City Rollers Skate Club is all about community, movement, and joy. We offer both group and individual skating lessons for all skill levels—from complete beginners to experienced skaters looking to refine their technique. Our classes are designed to be fun, supportive, and empowering. We truly believe that it’s never too late to start skating, and that it can be an exciting, healthy way to stay active and connected.

What sets us apart is our strong cultural identity and inclusive spirit. While we were inspired by our roots as Latina skaters, our doors are open to everyone. We’ve created a space where people can feel seen, supported, and celebrated—no matter where they’re from. Our Thursday night urban skate through the streets of Atlanta is one of our signature events. It’s not just about skating—it’s about music, energy, city lights, and connecting with others.

We’re most proud of the sense of belonging our community offers. City Rollers is more than a skate club—it’s a movement dedicated to spreading good vibes, confidence, and love for skating. Whether you’re just starting out or have been skating for years, we’re here to roll with you every step of the way.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The skating scene in Atlanta is growing rapidly, and we’re excited to be part of that momentum. With city developments like the Beltline and expanded bike lanes, people are being encouraged to explore the streets on wheels. Events like Atlanta Streets Alive are creating safe, inclusive spaces for skaters, and we see a future where skating becomes an even more integral part of Atlanta’s urban culture.

We’re also proud to be the main organizers behind the upcoming Peach Roll 2025, a major event designed to unite skaters from all backgrounds and skill levels. It’s part of our vision to bring more large-scale, community-driven events to the city. We believe Atlanta has the potential to become a skating hub, and we’re committed to making that happen.

Looking ahead, we hope to see more support from the city—more indoor practice spaces, skate parks, funding, and resources to make skating accessible to everyone. Skating is not just a sport; it’s a lifestyle, a form of expression, and a powerful way to stay healthy while having fun. Our goal is to ensure that everyone in Atlanta has the opportunity to roll into that experience.
