Meet Clarissa Morelli and Donald Sargent of Morelli’s Ice Cream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarissa Morelli and Donald Sargent.

In 2008, after working in pharmaceutical sales for over 10 years, Donald (owner) decided to do something he loved: making ice cream.

When Donald and his wife, Clarissa, opened their doors in 2008, the goal was simple. Create the best and most unique ice cream in Atlanta. Within a few short weeks, Morellis Gourmet Ice Cream became the summer craze!

Food critic after food critic visited the small walk-up ice cream parlor in East Atlanta to try Morellis Ice Cream, and in 2009, Morellis was named the 4th best ice cream shop in America by Bon Appétit Magazine.

Since then, they’ve racked up top awards from food writers and newspapers all over the country!

Fox News listed them on their Top 10 Places to Get Ice Cream in the US and Conan O’Brien even scooped for them, because he LOVES their Salted Caramel ice cream!

Through the support of the greater Atlanta community, Ormewood and Dunwoody neighborhoods where they’re located, they’ve become Atlanta’s FAVORITE Ice Cream. In turn, they support fundraisers for community schools, charities, and childhood development centers because they want to support the community that supports them! They’d like to thank ATL!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first couple of years for any new business is a rocky one. Our biggest problem has always been attracting and maintaining staff in a seasonal business when for a quarter of the year (winter) sales drop 50%.

Morelli’s Ice Cream – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are Known for creating a super duper, ultra-premium, densely textured, homemade ice cream. We create unique and exotic flavors, blending fresh ingredients, with fun and unlimited imagination.

We are most proud of our accomplishments over the past 10 years. From being featured in our neighborhood newspaper-to receiving National attention from our appearance on the Cooking Channel to our recognition in multiple national magazines.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being recognized Nationally by Bon Appetit magazine.
