Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Beltran.
Claudia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came to the United States 18 years ago from my native country Colombia. I graduated with a psychology major in 2010 from Georgia State University, and in 2013 I fell in love with life coaching. I started taking a lot of courses on coaching and personal development, which led me to the practice of “mindfulness meditation” and “spirituality.” Later on, I created Bamboo Coaching to focus all of this knowledge acquired into guiding people to become their best selves.
I started doing training for my sister’s employees. She is an entrepreneur who focuses on the wellbeing and development of her employees. The trainings were about leadership, communication, and team building, among other topics. Afterwards, her employees became my clients. Soon after, I had the opportunity to lead part of a 3-day leadership course called “Access the Leader Within,” which opened many doors for other coaching opportunities.
In 2017, I became a parent and with that, a lot of challenges and changes appeared. Therefore, all of my energy was focused on motherhood and how to be an effective mom. I understood most of the challenges were not about my child or her behavior, but instead, they were about me, my inner child, past wounds, limiting beliefs, and inherited patterns, which all blinded me from really enjoying motherhood. It came to my mind that a lot of moms must have been feeling the same way, so my parenting coaching started.
My parenting coaching is based on positive discipline, conscious discipline, and conscious parenting. Once I started practicing all the tools I learned, my parenting style changed, I started parenting by understanding my child’s world, understanding her needs, her emotions, and her brain. I really found the light after being in a cloud of doubt, because I did not know if what I was doing was effective and if I was the mom I wanted to be. With the knowledge, I’ve gained and the practice I’ve had, I now feel confident that I can lead other moms to see the light in the parenting journey, which sometimes seems lonely.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Maybe not as smooth as I wanted it to be. Most of the challenges were related to my own fears and insecurities; especially, not knowing how and where to start with my business. I also had another job that did not allow me to start as a full-time coach, so to me, it has been a slow process. However, I believe everything that happens in life is perfect the way it does. Reflecting back, it had to be slow because, during that process, I found my passion, which did not come during the first years of coaching, but instead, it flourished when I became a parent.
After I had my first daughter, I became a full-time mom, only working a few hours during the weekends as a Medical English-Spanish Interpreter at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. In other words, I had a 24/7 job at home, and some extra hours a month during the weekends. In addition to that, I was working with a few coaching clients, preparing training, and developing my business. There had been times where I had to stop from all of these activities and just focus on my family and myself. It has been an amazing journey and I strongly believe it is perfect the way it is because every struggle is a way to grow.
Please tell us about Bamboo Coaching.
Bamboo coaching was created to guide others towards achieving their goals through self-transformation into who they want to be. It is a spiritual journey of knowing oneself deeply. My specialty is to guide women in their relationships and parenting since a lot of our energy goes into family life. Therefore, I help women with the stress, anxiety, and overwhelm that happens at home, by creating the connection and happiness they wish to have with their partners and children.
From experience, I know family life can be a little chaotic, and personally, there were times I wanted to explode. Sometimes I felt it was too much trying to keep everybody happy. With every temper tantrum, disobedience, and defiance of my 2-year old, I felt like I was going crazy. I really wanted to control my child’s behavior and even my husband’s behavior, and what I was really missing was that I needed to control my own behavior, thoughts, and emotions.
I give women the tools they need to know themselves first, to understand their thoughts, emotions, and actions. I help them uncover what is behind their intentions of perfection and control so that they can discover the peaceful and loving mom/wife they want to be. I want to offer as many tools as possible to support every woman in their parenting journey. As a coach, I give it all.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To me, integrity plays a big role in success. Doing what I say I am going to do, and committing to not only my success, but the success of others is crucial to my coaching. Being trustworthy and setting myself as an example, gives women the confidence to work with me. Learning constantly is my main asset. There is always something new I can learn and pass along. Lastly, the most important quality is to do everything from a place of love and service.
