After my wife Maggie and I were married, we moved into our first house and began the process of furnishing our home. We quickly became disheartened with the search for quality furniture that matched our budget and expectations. When we thought we had found the perfect table, we were blown away by the poor quality compared to the price.
That’s when I told Maggie I would build our table myself. No particleboard, just real hardwoods. I researched the best materials to use, and built a beautiful table for our family and home that I was confident would last our lifetime. There was no guessing game about the quality, and we had the satisfaction of not settling for less than exactly what we wanted. What started as a promise to my bride evolved into a hobby, and in 2010 Rustic Trades Furniture was established.
Since building the very first table for Maggie, our family has grown and so has our business. We have had the privilege of being family owned and operated since 2010 and adding a talented group of local artisans to our teams in Georgia and Colorado.
It has been a great honor to serve our communities, as well as every corner of the United States. While we have grown, family is still the heart of our business, and we are proud to handcraft heirloom furniture for your family and home that will last for generations.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a small business, starting off everything we faced was new and there was a learning curve we had to navigate. One of the main obstacles we have faced is maneuvering growth while still maintaining a personal relationship with every single customer… Our hope is that no matter how much we grow, we will never lose that personal touch that we think is so important for our customers to have with our company.
An ongoing challenge we face is constantly allowing our work to evolve to meet customer expectations and design taste. We want to build furniture that will last for generations even as trends change. If a customer comes to us with a custom piece, we want to be able to rise to the occasion and build them a one of a kind piece of their dreams. These challenges excite us and encourage us to build better. The beauty of our furniture is that every customer has a hand in building their dream table from the ground up, so they don’t have to sacrifice any aspect of your furniture, and it’s something you are truly proud to have in your home.
