Today we’d like to introduce you to Cliff Danzy.
Cliff, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started when a friend and I created a shoe restoration and customization company named SneakerBeaterz in 2014 while attending Mississippi State University.
I always wanted to design shoes coming into college but never imagined I would get to this point where I designed clothing. SneakerBeaterz was open for business for four years. I found I can design clothing when we introduced custom clothing designs to the brand. When I realized how easy it was for me to create designs, I decided to look into the fashion world. In 2019 a friend and I started a lifestyle clothing brand named Pivot LifeWear. Our first collection is coming in August we have Fall capsule released already that is doing well. I am the creative director of the brand, in which I design all the clothing pieces for the brand. Pivot products will be in stores near you soon.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been pretty rocky, honestly. Being a young entrepreneur, you face a lot of battles. Those battles could be mental or physical. I have mainly dealt with juggling a personal and business life together. Sometimes it gets hard to focus on one thing when multiple things/people need your time and attention. It could take a toll on you if you let it. Every struggle I been through on this road I persevered through each and every one. I understand that life is a marathon not a race and there will be obstacles ahead before you are where you want to be. As long as you stay on your pivot those obstacles turn in to lessons.

I am the creative director for Pivot LifeWear Inc. in which I design and oversee the manufacturing process of the brand. Pivot is an outdoor streetwear brand that promotes the advancement of life and success for all of our customers. Pivot pledges to keep the environment first in all our endeavors. We differ from other brands because Pivot was created to help motivate people to focus on the future and the success of life. This is my first clothing brand and I am most proud of what it has become as a brand.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I loved sports. I grew up watching basketball games in which gave me my interest in sneakers. Michael Jordan was my hero at that time and this influenced me to become a sneakerhead. I also always had a hustler mentality as well. I started selling random items I found on eBay at the age of 15 and never looked back since.
