Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Bolden.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was raised between Alabama and Georgia, traveling between homes. Music seems to be in the background of all of my memories, from my Mom singing folk songs while cooking breakfast in the morning to my Dad’s radio always being on and dialed to an Outlaw Country station. Although my parents loved listening and singing along to music, they never learned to play any instruments. As I got older, it became evident to me, that I had that same passion for music, but I wanted to create something of my own.
I picked up a guitar a few years ago and started learning little by little. I have found music to be a place I can express myself, whether it be a song about my annual trip with buddies to Talladega Super Speedway or a story I created around the train whistle I heard every night as a kid.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a singer/songwriter.
More specifically, I am a country & western & folk singer/songwriter and I make music. I enjoy writing songs that are lyrically driven and tell a story. All of my songs are little bits and pieces of life experiences whether they are completely true or based on a true story in some form or fashion. Some of the folks I look up to include Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams (Sr. and Jr.), Ronnie Van Zant, Townes Van Zant and Otis Redding. All of those guys approached music in a way that allowed them to express themselves as an individual and I’d hope that my music comes across as the same way: genuine and authentic.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I believe the biggest challenge an artist has today is finding the courage within themselves to be vulnerable and express their inner most dialogue. Overall, I honestly think it is a great time to be an artist. Social media and other online platforms allow for artists to put their work out into the universe for others to hear, for FREE. You don’t have to get radio play, have a large distribution channel or have posters with your face on them plastered all over town in order to grow your audience. We live in a digital age where you can reach a national and international audience with the click of a button.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We recently recorded our debut single “Yonderway.” I am extremely proud of this song, the recording and all the folks that helped me to put it together. As of now, “Yonderway” can be found on all streaming platforms and digital buying platforms. We also have a seven-song live recording “Live From Woodstock” available on the same platforms. You can find links to all of those songs and where we’ll be playing next at codybolden.com.
