Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Johnson.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Art has always been a passion of mine. Some may not know but I use to dance when I was younger that was my way of expressing my creativity. In high school, I got into like paintings heavy but I could never paint. So, I started looking into photography because I saw that as a way to create a picture. So, fast forward, I came to college and didn’t really know what I wanted to do. So, one day, I was just reflecting on things that I like to do and my hobbies and I was like I was always into art into pictures and so I was like I’m going to give photography a chance, so I bought my first camera in 2015 came up with the name CodyKodaks and the rest is history.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, the road has been a struggle, being a creative in any form is stressful. The biggest struggle that I’ve had to overcome is myself. I say that because I use to beat myself because I use to compare my work to my peers. And I also use to think like do I really love this or am I just doing it for the time being. There have been nights where I question myself and my talents. There also was a time where I was just doing it for the money. But I had to stop and analyze myself and realized the reason I was really doing photography because it’s something I love, it’s something I enjoy, it’s something that makes me happy and that’s how I got over that struggle.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CodyKodaks – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I run a photography business, I do photography/videography more so photography though. The thing that I’m most proud of is probably the growth that I’ve seen in myself as far as handle my business and making sure my business is being shown in the best light possible. I think what sets me apart from my look that I try to go for in my picture try to keep them looking as natural and raw as possible with little to no editing.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Upon graduating from college at Valdosta State University, I plan on, of course, enhancing my brand and becoming more so of a wedding photography/videography business. But still, keep my roots in portrait shooting because that’s my first love. And also, just expanding my business all over Atlanta and further.
