Growing up, I always enjoyed creating art: drawing, sketching, and making paper collages. I remember thinking that I wanted to be a cartoonist one day. Throughout my high school years, art was always my hobby but when I went to college, I went the safe route and majored in Marketing and Communications. When I graduated, I started working as a sales representative for a large consumer products company. I worked in sales for about 12 years.
I remember thinking that I didn’t like what I was doing in my career and I wanted to make a change. I was blessed that I was able to do that when I relocated to Atlanta with my husband and two small children. This was an ideal time for me to research career options that would offer me the flexibility to be home with my kids and allow me to merge my artistic side with the sales and marketing skills I had acquired while working in my Corporate career.
My research led me to Graphic Design. My husband worked in Tech, so I had a great computer and a scanner that I could use to digitize artwork that I created. I enrolled in art school and got another degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication. While in school, I started my business, Creative Fuzion Design, and started doing posters, flyers, postcards, and printed materials for small organizations and non-profits.
As technology continued to advance and people needed to have a web presence, I added branding and web design to my business. Because I am in a creative profession, know the struggle of working for myself, starting a new career and business venture, I enjoy working with women entrepreneurs in industries such as fitness, business consulting, coaching, fashion, and lifestyle blogging. I feel that I can lend my insight to help them build something great.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth. Nothing in life ever is. I spent several years helping take care of my grandmother and my mother, who was sick at the same time. I did that while raising my children and making sure they were excelling in school. I lost my grandmother and then my mom ten months apart from each other. It was a devastating year. It can be a little challenging, putting aside time to learn new technologies and tools to run my business more efficiently.

My family (husband, sister, and kids) have been very supportive. They always encourage me and cheer me on when times get tough, or I start to doubt myself. I have also learned a lot and gotten tons of tips from members of different meet-up groups I have attended. Also, being a part of a Women’s Entrepreneurship group has given me access to many other great thinkers and doers. They have been very inspirational.
