Meet Comedian Sillymee Hinds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sillymee Hinds.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got started as a comedian in the year of 2014. I began having dreams of me being in an area surrounded by lights and people smiling and laughing while looking at me. In these repeated dreams I didn’t really understand it right away, I called my mom and told her about them many times. One day I just had her laughing like crazy at a family event and she said baby those dreams you are having is your destiny. God is revealing to you what you should be doing, I ask her and what is it exactly, she said everyone you come in contact with they enjoy being around you because of your heart and humor spirit, you got you make everyone laugh and it seems it comes natural. Most of the time, you don’t try to but you do it and as you do it, you love seeing our reaction. She say, go and follow your dream. Go make people laugh, share your gift. I told her I don’t think I’m that good and she told me in order to be great you gotta take risk but I promise you, you will be great.

So I began writing jokes, I did several open mics and I didn’t get booed lol. As I got good, I felt I should still be greater than what I am. So I applied great pressure to myself, went from good to great. Now I’m being booked for different events and shows really wanting me on the line ups. I perform in family events and more. I’m learning even when being great you don’t stop there, I’m still pushing myself still.

There are still times where I doubted myself. I told myself I think I’m not gonna do comedy anymore but I noticed the more I’m not on stage, the more I feel the need to be on stage. And when I’m on stage, I just feel like it’s where I belong.

As I look at the audience faces, how much they enjoy my humor, how many smiles and laughter I gave today, I never know what people are going through in their life but I do know one thing for sure, laughter heals and saves people mentally. And heart wise, it has changed me and help me in many ways of my personal life. Thanks to my mom for encouraging me and helping me find myself as well as my husband and kids motivating me.

I also have friends Naomi Starr, Denise Hollis and my best friend Tershunda Nora – it’s awesome to have loyal people in my corner to help keeping me where I belong. By encouraging me, my husband always have front row although sometimes he sits in the back, I think he believes I’m gonna roast him and he’s probably right lol.

It’s all out of strong love for him though. There are times where he would tell me right before I go on stage, baby you got this with a kiss and I would get up there and kill it. As I watch him from the crowd, I see his face is glowing by watching me kill many performances.  That shows how proud he is of me and he gives me another kiss while saying, baby wow you killed it. There is nothing like your better half speaking more belief in you. Today I am also nominated as one of Atlanta’s hottest comedians two years straight. I even took a dip into acting a got a part in TV show star and TV show boomerang that’s my second passion – acting. I also have skits on my Instagram page and Facebook page with a clip of me in TV show boomerang. YAAY I don’t wanna compete. I believe everyone has a place in this life. Some of us not brave enough to go for it and some of us are still doubting themselves and allowing that to stop them but I will say to anyone that wanna get into that position, they have been confused about mentally but feel it in their heart deeply to go for it. Chase your dream, live your dream. Nothing great happens overnight. Believe in yourself first and put God above it all. No matter what and GO!! I’m just trying to be the best comedian I can be – Comedian sillymee

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggles I have faced was being criticized. I’m that comedian that brings the fine and funny before other local comedians see me perform. Some of them just look at me.  The way I dressed and go hmmm, you have on heels, why do you wear heels or why do you always dress up. The audience is not worrying about your looks, they focus on you making them laugh. I did think about that to be honest but then I realized I’m M.E. and I don’t care what anyone has to say.

At all times, I’m bringing the fine and funny that’s what you will get out of sillymee. It’s like a bonus fine and funny, not just funny. Also I have had moments where folks come up to me before I perform and they would ask me are you a comedian? My response will be yes I am, then they would say you are just too pretty to be a comedian. Then in my mind I’m thinking, what is a comedian supposed to look like? Geesh, then once they see me perform the first thing they say after is girrrl you are Fine and Funny lol

It’s definitely not an easy road you see. I’m what the audience seems to adore either way it goes. To some other comedian women that may find me as a threat not because of rather I’m funny but because well my looks, something I can’t help and I don’t look at it at all like that. So far all the women comedians I have met, in fact most of them have been beautiful to me. I don’t see a threat. I look at it as, “Look at this women doing something I love to do” to sometimes I see what I can learn from others female comedians as far as the techniques when it comes to certain types of crowds you know.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I thank God first for this gift. My mom has motivated me help me find myself and where I belong truly. My husband have been there always stood by my side boosting me, encouraging me, laughing in the audience, letting me know what I should work on and telling me that I’m always funny and sexy to him lol. Letting me know and showing me he’s there to see me not anyone else lol. My kids they would wait up till I call or come home tell them how was the show we know you killed it Momma.

My friends Denise Hollis Naomi Starr and my best friend Tershunda Nora. They encourage me and show me how proud they are of me, make me feel like I really do got this and that I am really made for comedy. Also my comedy brother Tobias Dean, it’s very rare to have another actual comedian stand by you but this guy, he supports me however way he can rather it’s helping me get booked for an event or encouraging me as well or just sharing where I will be performing at on a specific day and I have supporters/fans that is really cheering for me. I truly appreciate them and I’m very grateful for everyone that is team sillymee.
