Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Arvinger.
Corey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
There are so many things that have happened in my life that I feel like helped me get to where I am today. I would say at an early age my mom instilled a hustler mentality in me when we used to sell $.25 icees out of our house during the summer.
I loved the feeling of creating something and making it good enough to for someone to want to spend their hard working money on. As I grew older, I kept those same lessons about providing something quality that people would want to invest in. Now over 18 years later I own a very successful clothing line (Support Black Colleges) and a Marketing Firm (Corey Arvinger Marketing) with clients such as Tyler Perry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey has been just that, A LONG journey. So many long nights and failed ventures. My sophomore year in college I had to leave Howard University because I didn’t have enough money to pay for college. It was such a low time for me because I was accomplishing so much and to have all of that taken away from me so fast was extremely discouraging. I have worked many random jobs that required many different skill sets and random work schedules. Even though these struggles weren’t fun in the moment, I definitely wouldn’t be who I am today without them.

I have two different businesses that I work on every day. Start with Support Black Colleges.
Our sole mission is to uplift, inspire and encourage others to Support HBCU’s! Celebrities such as Teyanna Taylor, Missy Elliot, Chris Brown, Lance Gross and many more have been spotted rocking our brand over the past six years we have been in business. In 2012 Support Black Colleges was started by my cousin and I right on the campus of Howard University. I knew we were onto something but I have no idea it would grow to be this huge. We are currently one of the top HBCU brands in the world and only growing more and more each day.
My other company is Corey Arvinger Marketing. Corey Arvinger Marketing is a marketing firm that I created two years ago that focuses on social media growth and management. The highlight of people that I am fortunate to work for is Tyler Perry where I help run the social media for Tyler Perry Studios. Ive also been fortunate for work with companies like AT&T, The Shade Room, One Music Fest and many more!
The thing that sets me apart from other is my dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done. I am not one that takes no for an answer. To me, no means find another way to get the job done.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I feel like I was the same as I am now. Super outgoing and optimistic. I always made friends pretty easily and adjusted to the environment that I have been in. I am a very competitive person and I love basketball. I don’t think that will ever change! I think if you asked people who know me they would say that I am very passionate and loyal. Thats something you don’t find in alot of people these days.
