Today we’d like to introduce you to Cornoy Watkins.
Cornoy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a music producer, now a restaurant owner, who worked with many artists from TLC, Bun B, Lil Wayne, Miss Mulatto, Tory Lanez, The Game, and many more. My mother taught me her cooking techniques from a young age, which helped steer the pathway I’m in now. Many friends and family will tell you I’m the one that loves to give advice on natural ways to help you stay healthy and how to protect the earth. I personally just want to see my friends and family be as healthy and happy as they possibly can be.
I created GABS through a personal lifestyle change. I had medical issues in my family and I knew it was time to make a change in my life, beginning with my diet. My change would spark others I love to change as well. I chose to do a plant-based diet and I lost over 30 pounds and I never felt more amazing. In the midst of my new lifestyle change, I needed alternatives to the meat cravings I had that was more suitable to my health. In finding alternatives, the GABS ‘OG’ Burger was created. I then created a sauce that is now known as GAB’S Sauce and that is what sets us apart for any other vegan burger out there. The name Good As Burgers came to me from a sign from God. I feel like God’s divine power intervened in my life to show me that part of my purpose in life was to help others through a lifestyle change. I did small events to see if people would enjoy the burger as much as I did, and it was a hit. I had an opportunity to open my own restaurant in combination with Cloud Kitchen and I capitalized on the opportunity. Now I just want to share my journey and change lives one Good As Burger at a time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly it has been a smooth road so far. The first week we opened, we exceeded our expectations and now, each week we have had tremendous growth. My GM, Jevon Kinloch, is amazing he makes sure the restaurant is running smoothly at all times. He keeps up with the supply and demand of all our inventory. His work ethic and dedication to GAB’S is unmatched. We are really lucky to have him on the Good As Burgers team.
Talia Jones is our head of marketing. She developed and manages our website, all social and restaurant platforms, and so much more. She has increased our customer base/sales and exceeded our targeted goals for each week. Our team efforts together is simply put as a match made in heaven. Soon we are looking to expand our team and our restaurant.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Good As Burgers – what should we know?
We specialize in all organic, non-gmo, vegan burgers and treats. We are definitely known for our amazing burgers and the unique names we have with each item.
I’m most proud of changing the outlook of vegan food in our communities, saving our animals, and doing my part in protecting the earth. We are changing the carbon footprint of the world. What sets us apart from others, simply put, is our culture. You may consider our culture Urban/Hippie from our menu selection to our merchandise, our events, and our podcast. We are more than another vegan restaurant, we are here to strike change amongst the culture and peers.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
God, Family, Success is what is most important in my life. My definition of success has changed drastically over the years and the pandemic has put a lot of minds back in perspective. Success to me is sustaining happiness in my life, helping others, and putting smiles on people’s faces.
