Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Hendrix.
Hi Cortney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Back in 2019, when I was working at Ulta Beauty, I knew I wanted my own business. I was doing facials at the time, and then Covid hit. I couldn’t do facials no more and I was sitting at home for almost a year. By the time Ulta Beauty called me, they wasn’t bringing the skin bar back. So they offered me a position to do brows. I declined the offer and just felt like it was time to move on. I didn’t just want to wax brows; if I was going to wax, I wanted to get more into waxing the (body). I eventually got a job at Brazils Waxing Center. Before I started the job, I had already purchased a suite that I kept under the radar. I got so content at the job that I was putting my business on the back burner. One minute I’ll start focusing on the business, and then I’ll stop. I was off and on for three years. I was scared, and I was nervous to become an entrepreneur. Then I was dreading going to work it was becoming a toxic environment for me. My yearly raise was coming up, and before I knew it. They haven’t paid me my yearly raise in 2 weeks. So I quit right on the spot and started what I needed to finish. That is Skin Glow Esthetic’s Beauty Bar.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t at all!!!… I feel like every entrepreneur goes through a process of growing their business. I’ve had my share of ups and downs. You really your own boss. I’m still used to it, but I’m excited about growing our business. The sacrifices, the cries, and the emotions being everywhere. It will all equal to stepping out on faith. The relief of knowing that you finally did it. I thank The Lord for pulling me through.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’ve been a Licensed Esthetician for five years now. I specialize in hard wax. I like to incorporate skin into makeup. Where I will take the bride and get her skin healthy and prepare her for her wedding day. We also offer bridal packages, waxing services, facial services, and makeup services. Your one-stop shop for all of your beauty needs.
What’s next?
My goal is to have our own storefront. To add more Licensed Estheticians and Licensed Cosmologists to our business. To also help others grow their business. To expand and offer classes as well. So much in store, and I can’t wait.
