Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Brown.
Cory, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I realize I was talented back in middle school. My oldest brother had me freestyle for the first time and I was surprisingly good he gave me his poetry book “A poet’s companion” to improve my lyricisms. And writing and that’s where my poetic background comes from. Even though I worked on my craft, I didn’t take it seriously until junior year in high school where I used to freestyle for hours straight in school. Fast forward now I’m an upcoming senior at Valdosta state university. Apart of the music collective Sunday sessions.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t when your product is new it takes time to be accepted. People don’t like change and a lot of the music I make is uniquely crafted on a different frequencies. I’m used to being an outcast from the way I dress, to how I talk, and to how I moved. At times I was really feeling lost with no direction though. And I quit music a couple of times tbh. But god always open doors leading back to it. Just by my friends, I came in contact with. The day I freestyle for Desi banks was the day I realized for a fact I’m supposed to be doing this not because I rapped for him but because that day I realized how much I truly care about music.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My music is very experimental and abstract I’m inspired by a lot of different artist such as Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Parker, a tribe called quest and plenty more but my sounds original to me and my writing style is indicative of my time fully grasping poetry which is the true essence of writing/music.
