Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Rhodes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cory. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About eight years ago, I started my first shirt line, that was called R2R and sold not one article of clothing. After going for a year of wondering what I was doing wrong, I simply left the shirt line alone. Then in 2017 while sitting on my couch, I happened to come across a design that I never placed out and felt that I would give it another shot. I decided that I would offer more simplicity, but yet a brand/design that only makes you say “hmm” but also one that people can relate too. So I came up with Misunderstood Clothing Brand! It’s a concept that everyone in the world can relate to it in some way. My logo started with the word understood with a line through it.
As the brand name states “Misunderstood”, most people did just that when reading the logo with the line thru it. So I felt like that was catch and also a conversation starter. So I put out my first sweatshirt in the fall of 2017 and paired it with the hottest shoes that were out at the time. I wore it my self and started getting great feedback and great conversations behind it. At that point, I realized I finally had some fire under this brand. As time went on, I started doing different color waves and even introduced the logo that I had been sitting on for years which I had never produced. Along with everything it has brought me to present day, where I have released a shirt that states “Black in America = Misunderstood”, in which has sold out on multiple occasions during this cultural shock that is currently taking place.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely has not been a smooth road! I’ve had to overcome, putting money into a product that even myself, I didn’t stand behind because I wasn’t feeling the product and neither was anyone else, to not making a lot of money because I was doing individual orders based off of what a customer wanted, to now producing a mass production and not being able to keep anything in stock.

My company “Misunderstood Clothing Brand” specializes in all different types of clothing from shirts to hoodies, socks, hats, sweatsuits, women’s clothing, kid’s clothing, and much more to come. What I am most proud about would be that I started from nothing, took several losses and to now be blessed and fortunate enough to really have a legit business off the ground. Patience is key! Honestly, what sets me apart from others is the simplicity of my brand that everyone in the world can relate to! My clothing has a meaning that not one person can’t say they haven’t felt before in life!

My father and mother were two of my biggest supporters and also helped me finance somethings! But ultimately, I thank everyone that has ever purchased from me because I wouldn’t be Misunderstood Clothing Brand without them!
