Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtlen Jones.
Courtlen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story may not be the same as everyone else. It was never and “ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to own a pressure washing business”. I would honestly have to say that I stumbled across my business by the grace of God. January 24th, 2020 I decided to quit my job of seven years as a police officer and start my career as a full-time entrepreneur. I enjoyed being an officer but I also wanted to enjoy living my life on my own terms. In 2015, I joined a k9 training club where we specialized in personal protection and obedience training. While policing, I was also training dogs and working with my club part-time; however after resigning, I picked up my training full-time and started traveling with my club and everything was good, actually it was better than good, it was great until it wasn’t. It was March when I turned on my TV and heard about the news of corona hitting the US. Due to the effect of the pandemic, it affected my dog training business putting my clientele at an all-time low. I knew I needed to find a way to recover and I knew I had to think of something fast. That’s when I went back to the drawing board to figure out something else that I could do to be able to provide for myself.
That’s when I remembered my father had a big commercial pressure washing machine that was just sitting not being used and I could utilize his equipment to bring in some extra cash until the pandemic passed through, little did I know it would become a big part of my life. Due to the pressure washing machine sitting it needed to be revamped and a few pieces added so I took it to the shop to have it serviced. Then and there is where I met my mentor (Mike) and when my journey of owning my own pressure washing business began. Mike immediately took me under his wing and taught me everything about the business. Traveling with him all over the United States servicing commercial properties like Home Depot, Lowes, and Fresh Market to name a few, I gained an abundance of knowledge. Pressure washing gave me a new start. I can honestly say that something I was just doing to get by at first has definitely become a passion. I love what I do and I’m glad I gained the knowledge and expertise to provide great quality service to my customers.
Has it been a smooth road?
I was brought up experiencing firsthand what it’s like to be an entrepreneur by watching my dad run his business. So I will say that being brought up in an entrepreneur lifestyle has definitely taught me a lot and gave me an advantage when starting up and now running my own business; however, even though I had experienced firsthand, I was never exempt from the up and down road that most, if not all, endure. As far as my road, I would have to say my biggest struggle along the way has been actually realizing that there would be struggles. When I started my business I thought it would be smooth sailing especially because I thought I had learned everything I needed to know from my mentor and watching my pops; however I came to realize I still had so much to learn. Throughout my journey of running my company, I have come across struggles like in the beginning finding people who I could depend on. Another struggle I came across was realizing you can’t please everyone, but instead always do your best and put the needs of your customers first. With following this motto and finding great dependable people I have been able to overcome key struggles in my business and provide services that my clients love, leaving a great impression and continued growth with open doors for my business.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
If I had to choose amongst my qualities or characteristic I would have to choose my ambition and my work ethic. A saying within my family is that “No one owes you anything. If you want something it’s your responsibility to go and get it”, that has always stuck with me and because of this lifelong lesson, I can definitely say it has put my ambition and work ethic at an all-time constant high.
