Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtne’ Guinyard.
Hi Courtne’, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been in media and entertainment since was i was young. I was in choir. At 15 I modeled. At 17 I worked at the local radio station in Columbia South Carolina called 100.1 The Beat. I moved to Georgia back in 2012 to further my education in entertainment landing me at AIU. While in school for film and Media Production, I was apart of a Podcast as one of the host and working at Streetz 94.5 as a videographer. All these experiences allowed me to network and build up my credentials. Once I graduated college I settled into being a Script Supervisor for film, commercials and verticals. I’ve also Executive Produced a short film and a reality show. It’s an up and down industry but I had to stay dedicated in order to keep my name in rotation to obtain work. It’s all about Who you know!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part working in film has been pretty smooth. I think the common struggles in film are the strikes for better pay in the different departments. Locations for filming are always changing from LA to Atlanta to New York and even outside of the country. And this makes it hard to find work wherever you live if film isn’t thriving in your area at the moment. also just making sure you keep consistent work. In this industry we are freelancers so sometimes you’ll find yourself slacking and not working for a few weeks. It’s easy to enjoy free time! Or you just find it hard to get a gig.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in being a script supervisor on film projects. I take pride in being a multi-tasker and being dedicated to my work. I am an over achiever and that helps me get far. A script Supervisor covers a lot of information while filming such as: continuity with the set design, wardrobe, eyelines etc. I also have to take notes of any changes in dialogue, how a scene is setup, or if the director wants to make sure they remember something for editing. The thing that sets me apart from others is probably my drive. I will work so hard at a goal or project that eating comes last sometimes. It’s just more important for me to get something that i’ve started DONE! I’m a true Go-getter.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have to be honest. I have taken risk that others wouldn’t. Once I got my Associates degree I moved to Atlanta to further my education. At that time I had a lot going on with family and had to make a very hard decision to stay and not have an opportunity to further my career or leave and make something happen for myself so that I could feed my family. I missed out on a lot of important memories but I wouldn’t go back and change my decision because I did what I set out to do! I am living better than I would have back home. My daughter is happier in life because of the decision I had to make. I don’t think life would have been the same had I stayed back home. I’ve been able to travel, meet new people and get a better understanding of the world because I left. Some risk are better taken than not!
