Today, we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Cox.
Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all began in the heart of Sweet Home, Alabama, specifically in Birmingham. As the eldest of my siblings, I’ve always had a spark of ambition. As a child, I dreamed big and desired a life of abundance. Even when circumstances seemed bleak and didn’t mirror my aspirations, I held onto my faith and remained dedicated to improving my life.
At the age of 13, my entrepreneurial sprit was shinning through. Living in a low-income, one-parent household inspired me to launch my first business, Courtney’s One Stop Shop. It was the spot where kids could pick up their favorite snacks without breaking the bank or traveling too far from home. It was also a way to make my own money, relieving my mom of some financial stress.
The fundamentals behind successfully launching and maintaining Courtney’s One Stop Shop as a teenager remain with me in every business venture. Great products, plus a plan accompanied by drive and dedication, are always a recipe for success.
This outlook has also allowed me to flourish in Corporate America while conducting international business and in everyday life. Though circumstances were not the best growing up, my life journey is a testament to ambition, faith, and resilience that has traveled states and challenged the norms.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t been a smooth one. I mentioned growing up in a low-income one parent household but that was the least of our worries.
Many of my childhood memories consist of my mom being physically abused and her overindulging in alcohol to cope. The effects of both weighed heavy on me. As a kid, I often felt like I needed to be mature or responsible in the way an adult would. So, I took on a lot of emotional baggage I had no business carrying.
Being a creative entrepreneur has always been my escape, though. Well atleast since I was a teen. The ability to make something beautiful while in a chaotic environment was like having a super power.
The amazing thing about roads that are not smooth is that they teach you vital life lessons. So, when I look back on all the bumps in the road, I’m grateful I could navigate my way through and never lose faith.
We’ve been impressed with Sweets & Scrubs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
I’m a serial entrepreneur, leading a skin-care company Stouts Road Beauty, along with my youth apparel brand Fresh Kingdom Kids.
I would like to take this moment to highlight a business I co-founded with my daughter in 2018. It started as a bonding experience for us and flourished from there. While we love the daily grind, we want to highlight the importance of taking time for self-care. So, we teamed up and created self-care boxes curated with exactly that in mind.
This business is truly birthed from a place of love between mother and daughter. I’m blessed with the opportunity to teach her business acumen, planning for the future, and overall life skills.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
