Today we’d like to introduce you to Dajana Carter.
Dajana, please share your story with us & How did you get to where you are today?
First let start by saying thank you for this opportunity to share my story. I am truly grateful and honored. Originally from California, I moved to Atlanta Georgia to further pursue my dreams for music. I was able to assume the title of professional recording artist at a very young age, I was graced with vocal abilities well beyond my years (so I was told)lol. My style of music and artistry is best described as a “New Millennium-Soul, Pop R&B fusion.” My parents have a large musical following in California which set me up with a great platform to be heard and seen. My father, the late Melvin E. Carter was a successful member of the popular group, ConFunKShun. His catalog includes the likes of artist such as: MC Hammer, Phyllis Hyman, The Whispers and Peabo Bryson. My mother Vearlynn Carter is also a well-known powerhouse vocalist from the Bay Area. So, my introduction to music came from my parents.
At age seven, I was able to record my first demo for a local hit TV Show “Mr.BK and the BK Kids.” My accomplishments followed me all the way into school. Receiving many awards throughout my elementary, middle school and high school career. Competing and winning awards along the way. For example, 2007 IPOP Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Categories included Singer of the Year, Monologue of the year, Dancer of the Year, 1st runner-up actor of the year and scene of the year. I always found my way to the forefront of my profession. No matter where I went or what I did, the arts was always with me. I’ve been able to stay afloat by running my own family based production and independent entertainment company. As well as opening up for and/or working in the studio with Gospel and Secular artists such as Byron Cage, Tony Terry, and Dorinda Clark-Cole just to name a few. I have performed the Canadian and National Anthem at both The Infinite Energy Arena as well as, The Georgia Dome for the annual “Battle Of The Bands.” In 2015, I was selected to partner with Splat Hair and Clinton Sparks for “The Big Audition’ in Los Angeles, California. And I’ve had the honor of writing with Guy Baruch of Temple Base Studios in Hollywood. Basically I’ve just stayed focused and working. And because of my work ethic and drive, I have been graced to meet and working with astounding artist and souls such as Vocal Coach to the stars Stevie Mackey and production development and ep songwriting with Adonis Shropshire and Atozzio Towns.
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh, NO!! This road has not been the easiest or smoothest. And if it weren’t for my faith and spiritual upbringing, I’m not sure how I would have made it through it all. Being a west coast kid moving to Atlanta was an interesting experience. I moved around a lot once I got here and went to like seven different schools. Making friends kinda came easy because I’ve always been very outgoing and outspoken. So, I was pretty blessed to connect with people rather it was through sports or just being that little girl that was always singing to herself. Even though I had music in my DNA and future, that didn’t mean life wasn’t happening. Early on, I had a few health challenges growing up like Asthma and Pneumonia. Which sometimes affected my physical abilities to sing. But I learned to push through. And I experienced the shocking passing of my older brother Darrius Carter in September of 2013 (car accident) and then, less than three years later, the untimely passing of my father and mentor. And with all that, I had still been dealing with my mother being diagnosed with kidney failure. So, things were a bit rough for a while in my life, but I continued on and I’m still standing.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the NDG Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
I am honored to have a business that specializes in the multidimensional aspects of entertainment. At NDG Entertainment, we concentrate on vocal training, show performance, sound production, and overall individual artist aesthetic just to name a few. We are known for gathering great talents and putting on amazing shows for people of all walks of life. I am most proud of just being able to give people the opportunity to be seen and heard. Being in the position to assist and create new opportunities for entrepreneurs would have to be what my company is most proud of, and that is what sets us apart from other companies. We are not just looking to carry on our own legacy; we are being pillars in the earth to push other like-minded willing souls to the next level of their much-deserved destinies in the arts.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the industry will changed to seeking raw true talent to support. I see us being the new blueprint on how independent companies should be conducted. In 5-10 years, I do see us having more physical locations so that we are not confined to just one area. With the diligence and care for each individual soul, we come in contact with. I see us branching into the movie industry with the ability to produce movie scores and just being a part of the new shift that is already happening.

Came across this story and I must say I am truly inspired by this. I went through something similar and I was ready to give up. But it’s people like this who show you you can go thru hell and come out great. I look forward to seeing this girl go far in life.
