Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakota Deshon.
Dakota, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started making music when I was 15, my older brother was already rapping so I had been exposed to studios and the creative process. Once I decided to pursue it, the progression was pretty natural.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been entirely smooth but I feel like the struggle is inevitable whenever you’re pursuing anything worthwhile. The biggest challenge is maintaining your sense of self-worth and identity in an industry built on taking it away and tailoring it to its own needs. Overall I think I’m doing pretty good at avoiding that issue.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a rapper and entertainer known for championing honesty and forever being committed to pushing the envelope artistically. I am most proud of the growth that I’ve had in such a short time and I believe that my transparency is what sets me apart from others. I’m just being myself and putting my story on display for y’all to see.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the openness of other creatives and willingness they have to support new talent coming up on the scene. In regards to negatives, I don’t have much to say honestly because I don’t give it too much attention.
