Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Olah.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m proud to say that I’ve been a life-long resident of Marietta, Georgia. Architecture has always interested me, but being raised in the South has given me an even greater appreciation for architecture that reflects true, southern style and welcoming comfort.
Being a residential designer with my firm, Olah Design Group, allows me to sit down with families to help them create a home where they will build their own memories. It’s pretty cool to drive down the street and see homes being lived in that were once dreams and ideas around a conference table. Seeing a home come alive in the building process is one of the most exciting parts of it all.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Design is subjective. One family may love a modern home with soaring windows and another family may want a more traditional home with a southern-style front porch. Listening to what the client wants is always top priority. There can also be ways to blend styles if a family is on the fence with going more traditional or more modern. A happy medium can be found by balancing variety of style with complementary design elements.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Olah Design Group – what should we know?
It’s wild to say that I’ve been designing homes for over 30 years. After school, I began my career working for an independent design firm before starting Olah Design Group in 2007. Now, with a staff of design experts working with me, I’m blessed to continue to do what I love.
The mission of Olah Design Group is to provide accurate, classical home design and planning. Recent projects include; custom & remodel home design as well as select commercial design projects in the midst of Metro-Atlanta and Historic Marietta, Georgia continuing to grow and thrive in exciting ways.
What are you most proud of as a company?
It’s always exciting to see our homes featured in magazines or online. HGTV, Southern Seasons Magazine, and Country Home Magazine are some of my favorite features…and now, VoyageATL!
The core of what we do is designing homes. At the end of the day, the one thing that makes me proud is to know that a family calls my residential design “home”, in every sense of the word.
What sets you apart from others?
We don’t just love what we do, we also love where we work. Marietta is home. We eat, live and play here just like our clients do. While our work portfolio includes Atlanta and other surrounding areas, as they say, “there’s no place like home” and that’s what sets us apart. We get it. We appreciate great design and want excellence for our clients. We also understand what it means to love where you call home.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
This year, St. Patrick’s Day marked the 12-year anniversary of Olah Design Group. I’d say that’s pretty lucky!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
A huge shout-out to Mimi Erickson Photography for capturing the classic comfort of our home designs with such style and beauty.
