Meet Dan Ricks of Bright Water Consulting in Gwinnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Ricks.

Dan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Bright Water Consulting (BWC) in 2003 after spending the first 20 years of my career with large Atlanta corporations such as Southern Company, The Coca-Cola Company and SunTrust Bank. For the past 14-years, BWC has been solving both business operations and technology issues/problems at customers across the country.

Those companies include fortune 500 companies, mid-cap companies, and smaller (even start-up) companies.

BWC brings a unique blend of highly experienced consultants to meet the individual needs of each client. No “cookie-cutter” approaches here. We listen, first and foremost, ask probing questions and then develop and implement solutions that drive business success.

Our consultants are all well experienced and experts in each of their areas.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has been mostly a smooth road but there are always bumps in running a growing professional services business. No real big challenges to speak of.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bright Water Consulting – what should we know?
We provide professional services consulting for businesses looking to either solve problems with or just increase their capability within their business operations and/or their technology organizations. We are all about trust, value and integrity. We specialize in 3 areas: 1) C-level services, 2) PMO services and 3) Infrastructure services.

C-level services entails being a trusted advisor to company CEO’s, CFO’s, COO’s, Presidents, etc. and helping to understand and solve their unique business problems.

The typical client is a company that is growing rapidly and needs help to ensure their business operations and technology is such that they can scale and be sustainable as the company grows. This often (but not always) starts with an assessment of the current situation, documentation of where the company needs to be and development of a roadmap to guide the client from their current situation to where they need to be.

PMO services entails implementing a Program/Project Management Office for clients that are growing rapidly and need a way to ensure success of their many internal and external initiatives during that growth. BWC will assess the specific needs of each client and implement the best combination of PMO processes, people, technology, governance, etc. to meet that client’s needs.

Infrastructure services entail assessing a client’s current technology infrastructure environment (people, processes and technology), with an understanding of the client’s needs then develop a model of the future infrastructure environment (people, processes and technology) and build a roadmap/plan to get from today to the future model. BWC also will implement specific infrastructure components (data centers, virtualization technology, information security technology, networks, servers, etc.) as needed for clients.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have had several mentors and supporters over the years: Ron Maillette, Bill Kalahar, Glenn Brown, Tom Mochal, Chuck Mears, Scott Woodison, Dr. John Pickett, Mark Gelhardt, Bruce Kopkin and Michael Albright.
